Not to revive an earlier mess, but I just noticedthis while surfing through MPSIMS. Is it coming down to banning people for minor infractions and possible joking?
Anyways, he was a cool poster, I’ll miss him.

But wouldn’t they have put on sabatical, like they did for Cruncy frog? Seem’s so much nicer than banned unless you deserve it. Wow, Morrison’s lament gone :eek: I’ll miss him.
Don’t assume that you’re gonna see what leads to someone’s banning.
For instance, if we find out that someone’s using a sock, or someone’s using a script, we generally ban without notifying the TMs. Using a script on the Straight Dope server is BAD, OK? Using a sock puppet on the SDMB is BAD, got that?
And don’t assume that either of these offenses are the reason why ML was banned.

No offense, Lynn, but if ML’s banning was NOT as a result of the linked threads or a request by ML, would you please tell us or give us a link that explains why he was banned?
I completely understand if a sock puppet or someone using script is banned forthwith, but ML has been around for a while, and as far as I know was neither… and lots of us liked him (even if we may have disagreed with some of his opinions…).
Your post leads me to think that there is more here than meets the eye… would you mind clueing us in?

Since you ask so nicely…among other things, ML was using a sock. I’m not free to discuss HOW we found out, nor am I free to discuss his other misdeeds.

This may be better with the about this message board. But it is relevant to this topic. I am not a great web geek. I am a better non-web geek I guess.
What is using a sock puppet? Or a script on the Straight Dope server? Sounds like stuff that I have never done, yet will get me banned if I do?
If you don’t know what it is, Road Rash, then you won’t have done it.
A sock puppet is a second (or third, or fourth, whatever) screen name registered by the same person. Whether it’s to irritate, abuse or amuse varies, but generally you don’t need two ‘personalities’ if you’re posting normally.
A script is more techie, but basically covers any kind of automated program or code used to gather information from the server that hosts these boards. Since the server is rather heavily taxed at the moment there’s a good chance that a script may add to the burden and any delays in accessing the boards.
It’s a shame about ML using a sock puppet. He always seemed a decent bloke and an interesting poster.
