Profilin is built ona very limited data set, and even then it only tries to talk about likelihood of where police should research if they have limited resources. It says absolutely nothing about what really happened.
It’s understnadable that you don;t quite get that because it looks like you read books from profilers who did more to push their egos instead of pushing what profiling is really about. Douglas is one of the worst in this department.
I think it’s pretty obvious that the parent did it. After all, they were the only ones in the house that night capable of doing it, and if they didn’t do it, how come no one has been arrested for it yet?
Ludovic, if you are so sure of that you should contact the police. It didn’t seem that obvious to prosecutors (who probably know more about the case than any of us).

Come on, it’s just as cut and dried as that case several years ago where the guy kidnapped a girl while her parents were sleeping, cut her up into little pieces and buried her in a remote field with a post-hole digger. Thankfully, the correct people have been identified in both cases, if not by the courts, by the only court that matters in the efficient march toward justice: the court of public opinion.

I was thinking of the ‘don’t grow a brain’ thing, and IIRC, you are the only person that I heard even mention the Speed connection. Not that nobody ever did, mind you, but this is the first time that I heard it.
Also, I can’t help but think that something is too fishy here, even after today’s arrest, or, perhaps, in light of today’s arrest.
I liked to give the Ramsey’s the benefit of the doubt, even as implausible as their story was, because having a child brutally murdered and then taped up could make some pretty normal people do some VERY strange things. It wasn’t until Patsy died and Larry King showed a clip of an interview with them 3-5 years after the murder that I began to dismiss all evidence that was contrary to their guilt. John was carping on about the police not doing enough (not agreeing or disagreeing, myself) and his main bullet was the ‘profile’ of the killer. His point was that the police should have had the killer in custody because the killer was 1. a pedophile, and 2. had access to a stun gun-and Boulder isn’t that big a town!
Hearing this had me reeling, knowing that a person could act this stupid and be a millionaire, like Ramsey. Police: “Hmmmm…the pedophile, with access to the stungun! Go pick him up, men!” If Ramsey had said this within even the first 1-2 years after JonBenet’s death, I could have attributed it to medication, shock, what have you. But not only did he say this, the look on his face seemed so contrived (to me, and no, I can’t describe a contrived look) as if he were expecting everybody to say ‘case solved!’ After seeing that spectacle, I was confirmed in my overall general opinion that any ‘evidence’ that is in the public domain for any trial is totally worthless until it is brought to a courtroom.
The arrest today reminds me of the Boccachio (sp) solution for the Corleones in the Godfather, where they get somebody that’s already a goner to take the rap. I wonder if the teacher will die of some terminal disease while awaiting trial.
Of course, I am not convinced in my heart of hearts that daddy did it, but I cannot believe that anybody else did it, either.
Time will tell, tho.

Anyone else think that Karr admitted to the JBR killing to get out of some really fucking heinous charge (for which he was being held) that would have sent him to a Thai prison for pedophiles?

What little information we have puts him close to the Ramseys, even if only as a stalker, for years. I believe it.
Of course, for 10 years I believed her parents did it, and I’m damned ashamed of that now.
I’ve been looking for any evidence that he had been charged with any crimes in Thailand and can’t find any. He apparently had warrants in the STATES, but he doesn’t seem to have been facing any charges in Thailand. He was arrested yesterday at his own home in Bangkok specifically for this crime.
He also didn’t go to the authorities himself with this stuff. He was tracked by his e-mail communications with people in Boulder.
You’re right, I’m confused - he had an oustanding warrant to appear in court stemming from child pornography charges.

That being said, Karr has already made claims about the murder that are false (or at least contrary to the official report), such as that he drugged her (not reflected in the autopsy cite ) and that he picked her up from school the day he did it (is was the day after xmas - so no school cite ).
This could only become more bizarre if I somehow became involved (I had nothing to do with it. Seriously).

Things in the media that IMHO weaken the case for Karr’s involvement
He was in communication for four years with a Law Professor (Mark Tracey) who had produced a movie decrying the media and pointing to an intruder theory. The Professor claimed that the man has talked about facts not in the public domain - but said today he “had no idea” whether Karr was guilty of the charge.
Karr’s ex-wife says he was with her Christmas eve 1996 and there is “no way” he could have done it.
According to the SFChronicle Karr was at Bevill State Community College in Hamilton, Alabama in Fall 1996. Records show Karr was a student from the fall of 1996 to the winter of 1998. During that time he also ran a used car business, according to Marion County Probate Judge Annette Bozeman, who often saw Karr in her office working on car titles.
Also in Fall 1996: Karr is hired as a substitute teacher at the high school he attended, Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ala. He worked there until school officials received complaints that he was saying things “that didn’t need to be said in an elementary class,” according to the district’s superintendent, Bravell Jackson
He followed prominent cases closely writing both Patsy Ramsey (he said today she had one of his letters when she died) and Richard Allen Davis (the killer of Polly Klass)

He was arrested on U.S., not Thai, warrants.
He confessed. On film. To reporters.
He has a pedophilic past.
The D.A. is convinced enough by what they have to charge him.
Things that IMHO do neither
Yes, let there be no doubt that Chloroform should show up in JBR’s blood. Given the way this investigation would anyone want to bet their life that the sample was collected and analyzed properly?
Lets say though more than likely it was collected correctly and Karr is lying about Chloroforming her. Two possibilities exist as to why (with many variants) obviously he could be lying about the whole thing - a high tech little old lady confessing to notorious crimes in her local police station - that is possible. It is also possible -that he is confessing in stages and isn’t ready to say “I stun gunned her, fractured her skull & raped her,” … “I accidentally did it by chloroforming her (I am not a monster I loved her)” is all the honesty he can muster at this point – it is pretty common in confessions for the guys to go halfway before completely breaking down …
Unless his ex-wife is covering for him, this is the fact that jumped out most at me. One must assume that his wife would know her husband’s whereabouts on Christmas Eve, especially considering that they had little kids at the time. I can’t see how he could’ve hopped a flight to Denver, killed Jon Benet, and then flew back to Alabama without anyone noticing that he was missing.
What puzzles me is that Karr supposedly has been obsessed with JBR’s death for the last ten years. Yet, if he is making a false confession of a crime he had nothing to do with, he’s being awfully stupid in faking it. Hell, even I knew that that she was killed on December 26, and so was off school (Karr says he kidnapped her from school).
If he’s one of those nut jobs who wants to convince people he committed a crime that he didn’t do, why is he doing such a bad job at it?
Here is a timeline of Karr’s movements over the years, I am not certain how complete it is. You might read Steve Huff’s blog entries on this case, he is pretty thorough on Karr’s background. I linked to it in this Pit thread, as well as to a forum devoted to sleuthing which has the proven facts consolidated nicely.
Does anyone remember who found her body in the basement and what the circumstances were. Was proper procedure followed? Did the evidence on the body get contaminated? If so by whom?
