Jon Stewart on Crossfire

Sorry - wrong thread. I don’t know how this ended up here, but that would have been quite a hijack indeed. Move along, nothing to see here…

Inferiority complex?

Finished the transcript. Oh, God, I want to see that show. That was great! I loved when the hosts got all defensive and tried to turn it around on Jon by accusing him of being soft on Kerry when he was on The Daily Show. Hey, idiots! The reason he was soft on Kerry is because he’s satirizing your show! The entire point of TDS is pointing out the absurdity and dishonesty of mainstream news. If you morons were doing your jobs, Jon would be out of his!

I also loved the bit where Tucker Carlson asked him why he wasn’t being funny. Not because of Jon’s response (which was great) but because, judging by the transcript, the audience thought he was a riot. It’s only not funny when it’s you he’s talking about, Tuck.

I am extremely sorry I didn’t see that show, but let me tell you:

If the Crossfire hosts are unhappy that Jon didn’t ask hard-hitting enough questions, they should certainly be pleased that he didn’t pull any punches on telling them how little he regards Crossfire.

Hooo. That was brutal.

I wish I had seen that. It sounds like Tucker really started to take his criticisms personally.

I don’t get to watch the Daily Show either. :frowning: That’s the only thing that would make the election tolerable.

That does it. I’m in love with Jon Stewart.

Here’s a link to the a bittorrent that is a recording of the show. Apparantly CNN doesn’t do repeats so this may be the only way to watch it for those who missed it.

My favourite bit (paraphrased):

There’s a thread on Democratic Underground with links to a video and an audio. I couldn’t get the video to work, and neither could my husband, so you might want to skip that until a good copy is posted. The mp3 worked just fine though, and it was better hearing the audio than reading the transcript.

I wish I’d seen it. Jon Stewart is a god.

Whoops, I crossed your post! Thanks for that link. Bless bittorrent!

I don’t know… from the transcript it seems to me as though Steward never got to really say anything substantive.

Not his fault… he just couldn’t really get a word in for the most part…

I get that he doesn’t like Crosstalk, and he think’s its part of the problem and not really a debate show even though it presents itself as one.

But he never was able to really explain himself.

So I felt unedified.

Say, does his recent book get into any of this?

-FrL-

That transcript was a thing of beauty.

[paraphrasing Al Pacino in “And Justice for All”]

No - you’re out of order. You’re out of order!!

Stewart clearly saw his opening and took a hard shot. More power to him. I love the fact that both sides got it with both barrels, but I love the fact that he dismissed Carlson with the bow tie comment. Be done with you…

Unfortunatly true I think. But that reflects his point. It’s theater. And when he didn’t fit into to the role he was supposed to play they had no idea what to do but try to get him back on script. Which is not different from the usual approach to “serious” interviews.

Yep. He’s got a whole chapter on the role of the media in democracy. Here it is, in full:

Okay, the very next chapter is also called Chapter 7: The Media. (This time subtitled "Democracy’s Valiant Vulgarians) and features many, many more words. But, more or less, exactly the same sentiment.

Good book. Highly recommended.

Hey-back off! He’s mine, I saw him first! Hehehe!!!

Was Carlson serious, or kidding when he asked why Jon Stewart doesn’t ask hard hitting questions on his show. Which is a comedy show.

And did Stewart actually say “dick” on tv, without getting bleeped?
(BTW, do I lose my Loony LeftistTM membership if I confess that I find Tucker Carlson cute? He’s just so adorable with that floppy hair and the little bow-tie).

In the audiobook he delivers that chapter with such bewilderment and outrage that by the end only dogs can hear him.

I’ve never seen Crosstalk til now but WOW it looks awful. That bowtie guy was really worthless. How can you have a debate show where one of the hosts has no ability to reason? The part where he asks Jon whether he gives lectures to his dinner companions is gold. What the hell? Yes, a debate show guest should be like a good dinner companion. Just tell jokes and be charming!

I can’t even imagine how his point could have come across any more clearly.

No. You just lose your ovaries

Oh, I still think he’s a git. Just an attractive git, that’s all.

He was absolutely, 100% serious.

Stewart’s response was, “The show that leads into my show is puppets making crank phone calls.”

Yup.

Salon has a nice little piece called Jon Stewart straightens Tucker’s bow-tie, if you can stand watching the dumb commerical to get into their site.

Wish I could get bit torrents to work. :frowning:

I saw some clips on IFilm. If you can stand ifilm, the link is here. if you don’t have bittorrent, the link is here.

Just click the 200k link for high speeds, the one above it for lower speeds.

Thank you, EsotericEnigma. Sweet Jesus, that was very entertaining.
