Jon Stewart to step down from The Daily Show

Absolutely. I’m more liberal than Obama having an ecstasy-fueled threeway with Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren and the only reason I’ve ever watched TDS was for their attacks on Fox. What else in this world could be a reason for watching it? Fortunately, that’s all they do. Bash, bash, bash. If they ever go a day without bashing Fox I send Stewart a large bag of shit in the mail. He hates that. But he’s so liberal that he apologizes to Iran and Iraq every time I do so, like the secret Muslim he is, and so he’s learned over the years to be be sure to bash Fox incessantly and mindlessly. Because that’s what liberals are like.

Except you, of course.

I’d like to see how Neil Patrick Harris would do in the job. I can imagine him having a light-hearted approach to interviews, but then going for the jugular with a very pointed, serious question. Plus I don’t know if anyone dislikes him.

The Daily Show with Wil Wheaton.

Actually, Wil Wheaton has grown up to be a smart, fun guy. He’d be a great candidate for the show, but I doubt he has the political chops for it. My evidence:his hosting gig on Tabletop.

I’d choose Jimmy Dore over Mankiewicz. Even when Dore gets angry he’s funny, and he gets angry a lot. But both Mankiewicz and Dore cut odd visages. They truly don’t have faces for TV.

I find that I now think hhWil hhWeaton in a Stewie voice.

Thanks for ruining my sex life for the next three days.

hhWhy? That’s almost as ridiculous as the taste of Cool hhWhip.

They gave Wil Wheaton a tv show. It didn’t do well and was cancelled after 1 season.

If at first you don’t succeed … and Wheaton has done great on Tabletop.

How about Anthony Jeselnik? he had a Comedy Central show that was good while it lasted. Might be a VERY different direction for the show if he hosted it though.

I think taking the show in a new direction is the last thing they should do. Sure, Stewart did that, but that was because it was a fluff comedy show with little importance. Now it’s a part of the zeitgeist. People will turn to the Daily Show for some sort of satirical take on the news.

I don’t mean change the format, just the approach of the host towards the satire.

Same thing happened to Jon Stewart before he got the Daily Show. And David Letterman, for that matter.

That being said, after seeing him on the show this week, I’d go with Bassem Youssef.

It’s not like he’s doing anything else these days.

What about Kurt Long, Jennifer Robertson, Manny Coto, Ned Rice and Dennis Miller as the new team?

Who in the Sam Hell are they*? Why, only the co-hosts of the Fox News attempt at comedy: The 1/2 hour news hour! A show so awesome, it lasted all of 13 episodes before getting cancelled. Two of the five hosts don’t even have Wikipedia pages and, of the remaining 3, one doesn’t even have the 1/2 hour news hour listed in his bio.

But damnit, Comedy Central needs a little shakeup. Let’s get the band back together!
*Dennis Miller notwithstanding. But you could be forgiven if you don’t even recognize him these days either.

Closer to home, there’s Rick Mercer - also currently committed, alas…

I don’t know why Chris Rock appeals to anyone. He had a schtick 15 years ago, and that’s about it. He’s never come off to me as particularly quick witted or clever, nor versatile. Lewis Black is the same deal - one trick pony.

Tina Fey would be a really good pick. They’d have to give her complete creative control and let her do what she wants, and she’d have to want to try to make a legacy, otherwise she’s established enough that she doesn’t need something that’s a whole lot of work. John Oliver proved that he’d be perfect, but he’s probably not leaving that gig.

Jon is great, I think they should let the show go, it had a good run. I wouldn’t be surprised if his rosewater experience is pushing him to new opportunity.

I hope it wouldn’t be someone like Oliver. I find much of what he does funny, but especially with his stand up work I really, really get tired of his “smug Brit who thinks his job is to tell Americans what to do” schtick.

Donald Glover would probably be great, but he’s one of the few people that I’d shy away from recommending not because I think he’d do a poor job, but because he’s such a powerhouse with so many talents I don’t want to box him into that sort of long-standing gig.
