I wouldn’t. Jewish women were raped, which is how Jews wound up with European features. It’s not “racist,” it’s straight-up historical fact, and it doesn’t bother me. And yes, there are people who “look Jewish” and Jewish people who “don’t look Jewish” and it’s not “racist” to say so. The definition of racism is getting so goddamn twisted and turned around that it’s completely losing all of its genuine meaning.

I didn’t realize it was racist to be interested in the different types of facial features associated with different ethnic groups. Jesus H. Christ, why is everyone so hung up on this? The diversity of different faces is interesting and attractive to me and it’s just an indisputable fact that it correlates with peoples’ ancestry. Maybe some people like to pretend that the face someone gets is completely randomized at birth, but it fucking isn’t. Are you now seriously making the argument that acknowledging this makes you a racist? Yeah, I spent time browsing the Skadi site, it was fucking interesting, from a standpoint of analyzing different peoples’ facial features. It doesn’t mean I buy into the idea that any “race” is superior to any other.

I think because Jewish isn’t a geographical distinction. “Stereotypical” Jewish people are Ashkenazim or Eastern European, but Jews are awfully varied…that stereotype is the minority…whereas Arab is easier to ‘pick out’ from the crowd, I suppose. I’m not saying that all or most “Arabs” look alike, but I feel like it’s less varied than Jewish people.
Maybe, but I think there’s absolutely such thing as “looking Jewish.” Jeff Goldblum looks Jewish. Zac Efron does not look Jewish, even though he is Jewish. Jason Biggs does look Jewish, even though he is not. I find absolutely nothing wrong with saying that someone “looks Jewish.” It’s when people try to spin that as a negative thing that it becomes wrong.

I got Jonathan Pollard mixed up with Michael Pollan at first, so the headline didn’t make much sense to me. Then I figured it out.
It’s not racist to say they look Jewish, it’s racist to say that those particular Jews are attractive because they’ve got Caucasian ancestry. “Sure they’re good looking, they don’t look Jewish at all.”
Yeah, I agree. But I never put forth this position at any point in this thread or anywhere else.
You’re not going to win. People have dialed sensitivity on this issue up to 11 so they can play Gotcha-Ya! the first time any inference that any group is different than anyone else in any way, shape, or form gets floated. There are certainly aspects to making these differentiations that stray into racism, but comments about typical distinctive cultural group phenotypic “looks” don’t (IMO) really fall into that category.

It seems pretty clear to me from my (very interesting) thread about James Coburn’s ancestry that most people have no problem discussing the heritage and consequent facial physiognomy of a white man of Swedish descent. Many people said they thought he “looks Swedish” and this elicited no ill will from anyone. And I recall several interesting threads with monstro where the issue of people looking white or black was discussed very civilly.
Maybe it’s just when you talk about Jews that people get uptight and snarky. Though the two other people in this thread with Jewish ancestry that I’m aware of - CitizenPained and Bryan Ekers - don’t seem to be getting offended, but several people who I am guessing are gentiles are.

I’m sorry dude but Arabs (with the possible exception of Peninsula Arabs) dont define themselves by a pseudo ethnic look or features. To imply that blondeness in Arabs can only have appeared because a distant ancestor was either a slut or the victim of Crusader rape gangs is incredibly retarded.
Look, just reverse it. If what you said about Arabs would be racist if you said it about Jews, then what you said was racist. If you believe Arabs (or Jews) have a certain look, you are factually wrong, and in fact making generalizations based on race.
OK, I reversed it. I still don’t think it’s “racist.” But I think your definition of racism must be very different from mine. I’m not happy that you’ve applied that label to me, but I’m also not going to try to change your view on this. There’s no point. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
