FYI, I posted a GQ thread asking about the meaning and implication of mandatory parole. Perhaps some lawyer type will come along and provide a clearer answer.
Wasn’t Israel settled by refugees from … wait for it … wait for it … Europe? I expect Jewish people to look kinda European, but Arabs I expect to look, well, dark skinned. Don’t nobody look at all the pictures we’ve seen form Iraq and Afghanistan? See a lot of blonde men wandering around? I’m sure there’s exceptions, maybe a lot of them, it’s well known the Arabs conducted slave raids on European countries during the Dark Ages. But hey, looking at things with your eyes and seeing what is there is racist? I’m not seeing a lot of fairness here.

Well, Plame’s job was preventing nuclear proliferation, so yes, her network was exposed to the people who are interested in spreading nuclear weapons. I’m still flabbergasted by the way everyone accepted it as just another IOKIYAR thing to do. It was treason on Cheney’s part, pure and simple – knowingly and deliberately exposing American agents to her enemies.

About half of, if not more, the Israelis are from or descended from people from the Middle East and North Africa, just so you know.

So if somebody makes a movie about an event, the event becomes fictional?
Is this a multi-post whoosh? Are you not aware that an independent prosecutor was named, an aide to Cheney convicted, two reporters spent time in jail, and thousands of news stories written over the course of years about this incident?
The answers I’m getting over at my GQ thread about “mandatory” parole suggest to me that it is possible Pollard won’t be released in 2011.
The parole board usually has discretion whether or not to grant parole requests. In Pollard’s case, in 2015 they will no longer have that discretion. Which means if he requests it, and agrees to whatever terms are set, they must grant it.
But it is possible he may not request it. He has been eligible to request it for many years, and has never done so. It’s also possible he may not agree to the terms of a parole.
How much discretion the parole board has in setting the terms of parole. I do not know.
Capitaine zombie is French. He might not have been aware that the movie was based on a real and recent case. It (the real story) didn’t receive much coverage over here (and the few coverage it received I wouldn’t have paid attention to or would have immediately forgotten if I hadn’t read a lot about this on the SDMB).
Yeah, right. It is sad when people confuse escapism with true events. Next you’re going to tell me Indiana Jones really existed or that there was such a thing as Nazis.
N.B. Afghans are not Arabs. Their largest ethnic group is the Pashtuns, followed by a bunch of Iranian and (other) central Asian ethnicities.
