Wow. Telling someone that they wrote an incoherent post is now grounds for a warning.
This was uncalled for, Jonathon Chance. Please rescind it.

I thought the warning was for two posts in a row that you wrote:
and
Only two in a row?
I think there’s a difference between “you write incoherently” and “that post was incoherent.”
And there was a thread just a couple months ago here that concluded that moderators would likely take some kind of action against people challenging others’ reading comprehension. You have a reading comprehension problem - About This Message Board - Straight Dope Message Board
Clothahump, either of those posts mentioned might have led to a warning.
In the one you were warned for you might have missed the warning with the first sentence. No link as I’m on a tablet. But the second sentence you directly took a shot at another poster. In the other one, post 49 in the thread, you were simply a jerk.
Do better in the future.
One could ask the same of you, Jonathon. I’ll grant you the first one being snarky. But that second one was absolutely not a shot at another poster.
But the ghods have spoken…
Is the persistent misspelling of Jonathan accidental?
Ahh, stop yer’ whingeing Clothy. I copped a mod note for comparing you to a senile uncle…
Yes, now that I look at it. I have a student who spells it that way. My bad.
The way JC has been heavy handed modding I expected that the OP had a valid concern… Then I read Czarcasm’s quotes. JC got it right on this one.
Nope. Not yesterday, not today, not tomorrow. He blew it, but I’m the one taking it in the shorts. And I’m not the only one. Frankly, it’s bad moderating like this that is one of the major reasons for the decline in the board over the last several years.
Your main mistake was in being too indirect with your insults. For example, don’t tell someone that we have some great discussions when you’re not around, which is a grave offense that clearly deserves an official warning. Instead, just call them pathetic, a negligible misstep that merits only a tsk-tsk. It’s just plain common sense.
Jonathan seemingly likes to make up new rules, which start with a warning, not a note.
A note would have been the right thing there, Cloth, you gotta admit you were getting a little too snarky.
OTOH, those posts were not coherent.
Next, I guess will be warnings for “reading is hard, eh?”
I suggest someone " put on his big girl panties panties and deal with it, or he can continue to whine like a broke-dick dog. Your choice, snowflake."
(not my words - see direct quote)
Moderator Note
Keep in mind that was in the Pit, and this is ATMB, which has different rules about what is acceptable and what isn’t.
Let’s keep everything in this thread ATMB appropriate, please.
Apparently, the board has been declining precipitously ever since I first joined in 2000. At least, someone has claimed the board was declining due to bad moderation every few months since I’ve been here.
I’m sure it’s coincidental, but these statements are most often made just after the poster has received a warning or a mod note.
I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that any declining postership could be to the annoying presence of posters such as the OP who simply want this board to be different than what it is. Pushing the rules, trying to get in as much nastiness as possible, and then owning the ATMB forum with their constant whining about heavy-handed moderation. I say this with the utmost respect to the principle of allowing even the most dippest of sticks to post their…whatever. That does NOT refer to the OP, but rather the principle defined in the greeting message from SDMB.
as ive said before people should be glad that they can bitch about mod actionshere
most places just send a couple of private warnings and then you just go to sign on and get a page saying your membership is no longer needed wanted or desired for not being able to get along/fit in with the “tone” of the board
I learned a long time ago to just play by the “don’t be a jerk” rule, and things have worked out just fine.
I also play by the “I don’t need to respond to every post I disagree with” rule.
Life’s good.
Yeah, but you’re Canadian, aren’t you? It’s genetic or something.
The rest of us are largely Americans. What are WE supposed to do?
