JonBenet Ramsey Murder

Not sure if this question belongs in BBQ Pit (because I’m sick of seeing the recurring headlines), Great Debates (highly speculative), or here in General Questions (because I really want to know):

Why is this case still so media-covered, more than 4 years after the crime?

  1. Because the original crime happened on a slow news day, and the media figures that now they’re obligated to continue covering it since they covered it when it broke.

  2. Because it was the first murder in Boulder, CO in decades.

  3. Because the murder of a white girl in a rich family is juicy.

  4. Because the rest of the story is so equally juicy. This story involves allegations of incest, allegations of child abuse, the whole seedy underworld of pre-teen beauty pageants, and obsessive parenting. In short, it’s tabloid journalism to the Nth degree, and a lot of Americans can’t get enough of it.

FWIW

Sad fact of the matter is, some murders are painfully obvious to prove, regardless of the (painfully obvious) circumstances.

Colorado is taking the FBI’s advice and putting extreme public pressure on the parents in the hopes that one or both of them will crack and confess. One way to keep the pressure up is to regularly feed the press. The press in turn know that they’re doing a good thing by keeping the pressure up, and they’re happy that the story still sells. It’s a morbid “between the lines” story that a lot of us are following.

Unfortunately, it looks like the Ramseys rather enjoy the attention. Only just recently their lawyer issued a press release about a burglary attempt on the Ramseys’ new Georgia home, once again thrusting them into the spotlight.
