Jonestown, what was the immigration status of the residents?

I have not been able to find much that actually covers this but what exactly was the immigration status of the Jonestown residents? Were they there on visas or permanent residents, obviously the government of Guyana must have known what was going on. Most stories gloss over this totally just saying they migrated, um thats not how immigration works even in a country like Guyana.

Anyone know a source that details this, or Jim Jones dealing with the government of Guyana in more precise detail?

I just (last week) read the Wikipedia article on Jonestown, etc… and, IIRC, it covers it pretty well. I can’t remember what their status was, but, as I say, check Wikipedia.
