Jordan Klepper's "The Opposition" cancelled

Jordan was a correspondent on The Daily Show, and while his segments there were so-so, I really thought his own show was excellent. Just shows how hard it is to get a foot in the door now on TV.

For those who never saw it, it was a satirical comedy show done in the style of one of the opinion shows on FOX.

His final sign-off speech was well-done, so hence the shout out here.

The fight continues.

It was too much like The Colbert Report without being the Colbert Report. Jordan is kind of bland and goofy. I’m not surprised by the cancellation.

This. I watched it once and that was enough. It’s hard to compete with The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Ratings are everything.

Wilmore: 259 episodes.
Klepper: 128 episodes.

A little over a factor of two decline. The next show will be <64 episodes, etc. The eighth show in the slot will be canceled 19 minutes in.

Colbert was parodying Fox when Fox was still trying to appear to have journalistic standards. O’reilly was certainly a blowhard, but he was just reasonable enough that people took him seriously. Parodying that just gets you a bit of inflated ego.

The current crop of right wing newsies is in conspiracy land. There is no parody of that without invoking and then demolishing Poe’s law.

I tried to watch it a few times, but couldn’t really stand it. It wasn’t really all that different from the talking heads on far right shows, and the interviews were beyond awkward. Colbert had a few awkward interviews as his character acted up, but everyone I saw of Klepper’s just made me cringe the whole time.

Supposedly, he is doing a new show coming out this fall. I liked klepper as a correspondent on the daily show, so if he is able to tone it back a bit, maybe he won’t be quite as off putting.
