Jordan, Religious Freedom, And Human Rights

In earlier times, it was so well-known as a phenomenon that the RC church developed ways to screen potential missionaries who were looking forward to dying for the faith.

You’re right, I misunderstood and misused the term. However, this article, Persecution of Christians ‘coming close to genocide’ in Middle East – report , seems to give real credence to my concerns.

I did some checking on, The Guardian, and it seems to be regarded as reliable news source.

In general The Guardian is one of the better sources you will find in modern reporting. They are however a miserable bunch, and any reporting can usually be guaranteed to take a bleak view of life. Comes from the weather in Manchester IMHO. They also wear their socialist leanings pretty openly. For balance they are good source, but not by themselves. I have a paid on-line subscription and my parents subscribe to the print edition, but none of us would use it as our sole source of news.

When the mail comes with my mother’s print edition, I will give it to her, and usually announce it as “here is your weekly misery”. She knows exactly what I mean. But they are one of a dying breed of news media, ones with integrity, and I am happy to subscribe to help keep them alive.

Nitpick: “bearing false witness” is not the same as lying. It specifically means telling a lie about another person, not lying about one’s intent or motivations on an official form or telling some other lie that doesn’t relate to another specific person’s actions or behavior.
