Jordan takes one for the team.

Command Sgt. Maj. James R. Jordan that is. Michael’s older and shorter brother.

Seems Sgt. Maj. Jordan is coming up on his 30 year mark in the Army, a service far beyond the call of duty. This isn’t quite enough for the man, though. He’s pressing the Army to allow him to extend for a year, so he can help lead his troops through an Iraq deployment.

Read about it here.

Hats off to you, Sgt. Major. Thank you for your service to our country, and especially toward your fellow servicemembers.

Maybe I’m just lousy at naming threads.

Bump.

Well, I, for one, thank you for posting the link. He sounds like an outstanding fellow.

From the article:

How fascinating that two brothers can be so different in height!

No, the title is just fine - I got the impression it was about Katie Price (sp?) and opened the thread

I don’t know jack about the Jordan family, but they must have had some damn good parents. Those two brothers have achieved a hell of a lot in their chosen professions.

Their father, James, was killed in a robbery in 1993. That event is frequently cited as the impetus for Michael’s retirement from basketball the following year.

Thanks for the thread, Mr. Moto – I had never heard of Sgt. Jordan, and applaud his strength, character and dedication.

Note that the sergeant was kicking butt in the Army when Michael was, what, 12 years old?

James Jordan was probably quite an influence on his famous younger brother.

Isn’t Command Sergeant Major one of the most senior NCO ranks? How many NCOs serve in this exalted a position at any given time?

In any case, my highest regards for a man who is obviously a fine American.

He does sound like a fine person.

Regarding his height, IIRC, Michael was also 5’9" until about his soph year of high school, then shot up.

Damn do they look alike as well (at least from that picture).
