Joseph Zawinul passed away yesterday of skin cancer at the age of 75.
Most people will remember him as one of the founding members of Weather Report, probably the single most popular jazz group of the 70s and 80s. The band changed personnel constantly, with Zawinul and Wayne Shorter forming the backbone of the group.
He will be sorely missed.
I got to know Joe (musically, not personally) during my Find and Listen To Everything Jaco Ever Recorded phase. He was an amazing and unique musician.
