I thought this was a thread about Joyce from my bowling team.
Nice lady. Good solid bowler. We put too much pressure on her having her bowl last . She shows up for every game, unlike the rest of us.
Well, the place itself in Gone With the Wind. Seat of kings and all that. (Pride goeth before a fall, eh what?)
The Joyce quote is more specifically about the Psalter, I think.
I liked Joyce better than that blonde bimbo Suzanne, but Priscilla was my favorite of them all.
This is so… disappointing.
I’d think out your thread titles a little more carefully in the future . . .
Well, you’re gonna get that here.
When I have a need to hash something out with folks who are way too far into Joyce, I take it to alt.books.james-joyce. Of course, UseNet is a more satisfying experience with a good newsreader (with a killfile for the spammers/crackpots), but Google’s web archive is handy for a quick look.
There are some towering intellects that post to a.b.j-j, mixed in amongst the raving loonies.
Even here, you would probably have better luck with a more specific topic.
Of course, nothing beats a good boozing for a proper Joyce discussion, but they’re not always so easy to arrange, and often descend into a darts match.
It’s kinda like if I were a big fan of '30s crooner Dick Powell, and started a thread called “Boy, How I Love Dick!”
I’d be in for it.
Heh. Blake Edwards made great use of Dick & Virginia in Richard Diamond, Private Detective. (And Powell’s voice, too, I guess.)
Dick & Virginia. T’would fairly make Joyce grin.
