Judge Barron, I hope a fellow con shoves the wide end of a gavel up your ass

aka: The Continuing Saga of Ruling Class Justice

Ranting and raving probably doesn’t help much, but like a stiff double bourbon, it does provide temporary relief.

In the sewer pit known as the US justice system, yet another cockroach was exposed for abusing his power.

Back in January, Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge (read: lawyer with political connertions) Victor Barron (is his middle name Robber?) was nailed in a sting operation for shaking down a fellow liar in a bribe for $5 million civil lawsuit settlement exchange deal.

It seems the honorable judge solicited bribes from the complainant’s leach, Gary Berenholtz and was busted after accepting the first $18,000 installment of his $100,000 “You-wash-my-hands and I’ll-wash-yours” cost of doing business in my court fee.

Like all vermin caught in a trap, Judge Barron used his survival instincts and cut himself a nice plea deal with Brooklyn DA (read: a mid-level manager in our corrupt legal sysyem’s chain of command) Charlie Hynes. It includes:[ul][li]A 3-9 year sentence, of which he’ll probably serve 104 weeks of. And, The right to keep his $97,000 annual pension[/ul][/li]
This is pure, unadulterated maggot shit.

You abuse your office and your power & get caught taking advantage of our insane, sky’s the limit, tort system.

I’d bet my left arm (I see your arm and raise you a testicle) this isn’t the first case in which Victor Barron was on the take. My guess is most of the trial lawyers (read: slime) that come slithering through his chambers have paid the former judge’s payola fee after receiving their 1/3 of outrageous windfalls in his court.

I demand an investigation into all former plaintiffs and attorneys that have received a favorable judgement in his court.

And

Legislation introduced that bars all Government pensioners from receiving any and all tax-payer financed retirement benefits if found guilty of committing while in office.

And after that

Maybe we can try to tackle the other fraud and abuse that occurs daily in our legal system.

Hmmm. Did he ever take money to rule for a defendant or a defendant’s lawyer? My understanding is that the judge does not set the amount of the award in cases, but he or she can rule for a defendant at many points along the way to keep it from going to a jury. That’s not to say that Plaintiff’s lawyers don’t abuse the system, but your assumption that it is only half the litigants seems to me to off by half.

Let me get this straight. They caught the guy, and will punish him. Therefore, the whole system is corrupt. Is that about it?

I agree they should strip the pension. Moreover, I think an abundance of caution would indicate that an investigation into his previous cases take place.

I reject completely your insinuation that somehow this indicates widespread corruption throughout the legal system. It may exist, but one corrupt judge - caught and soon to be punished - is not the best evidence for it.

Beagle,

There have been several indictments in Brooklyn lately, he's just one. I think some insane percentage are indicted - like a sixth in one circuit. Granted, this doesn't appear in the article cited, but presumably John reads the local papers, he's only maybe 25 miles from Brooklyn.
