Probably none at all, RJ. “Gangstas” aren’t known for their accuracy or their range time, but he was close to the people he shot.
This and the Lefkow case bring to mind how my dad had a desk gun, a briefcase gun (security guys at federal offices were less likely to enforce the rules back then), a car gun, guns around the house that we all knew how to use, and the biggest damn German shepherd I ever saw (120lbs at his fighting weight) who served as greeter. But as obnoxious and confrontational as the old man could be, most people needed only a reminder of the mandatory sentence for assaulting a federal judge before they backed down.
Welcome to Georgia, amigo! Not only is everybody with a badge out looking for this strunz, I’m willing to bet that half the people in the MetroAtlanta area have deputized themselves as “Temporary Honorary Marshals of the State Militia” and have joined the hunt.
Now that they’ve caught him, I wonder where they’ll have the trial. No way it’ll be in Fulton County. The Fulton County DA said that they’re going to take care of the rape trial as soon as possible- I wonder if they’ll try to finish it up with the same jury- I can’t imagine that would happen. I know Barry Hazen, the attorney who was representing him on the rape charge, and he’s really got an uphill battle now.
As an aside, the courthouse where I work (it's not in Athens) has NO security. I mean ZERO, not even a stinkin' metal detector. You could literally bring an Uzi into the courthouse. "THEY" think that security is too expensive (but they are willing to pay the legal fees to keep the 10 commandments up in the courthouse). All 3 of the Superior court judges were meeting with the Sheriff on Friday to discuss it. Of course, Fulton County has really good security as far as entering the courthouse goes, and that obviously didn't prevent the tragedy that occurred yesterday.
This guy’s image and deeds have been posted on practically every website in the world for the last 60 hours. The victims’ families have as likely a chance of “impartiality” as the population of Clueless, KS. Of course, I don’t think the original rape trial jury will be reimplied. “He killed 3 people at the culmination of his rape trial, he must be guilty of rape.” I think the prosecution and defense alike have the clairvoyance to see beyond this faux pas.
God damn it, networks, quit qualifying everything with “alleged” or “alledgedly” or “suspected!” If there were not tens to hundreds of witnesses, I would conform to your semantics. But if enough witnesses confirm he perpetrated said act, then I would like to think it’s ok “say” he perpetrated them, even though not convicted; which, of course, is a matter of time and process.
I think “OMG” and “LOL” are the lowest functions of human self expression and communication, and shouldn’t be used outside of high school. But, OMG, LOL!!
