I’ll spare the story for the end, but I ended up with an Omega 8300 Juicer last night. I juiced a couple apples and a banana, and they were pretty good. WAY better than store bought apple juice! I was considering going on a non-strict juice diet for a week, to try and drop a few pounds. Have any of you ever done this before? If you have, or haven’t but use a juicer, do you have any favorite mixes? Any suggestions (besides not to do it)?
You are not a doctor, I am not a patient, yada yada yada, I’d consult my doctor if I didn’t feel 100% healthy at any time, etc.
So, the story, if you’re interested. It was quite interesting, actually. I’ve been posting on craigslist to try and find a roommate, and most recently to try and get rid of some couches in a spare room. I was trying to get rid of a couch, a mattress, a coffee table, a couple rugs, a table, a couple stools, and a TV stand. I’ve also been looking for a juicer for awhile. When cruising craigslist’s barter section, I found an ad for a juicer. The gal was looking for a mattress, a coffee table, rugs, a table, and a dresser. She was very nice, and ended up taking everything but the couches, which I think have been claimed by a guy who’s hosting some exchange students. It was in really good shape, and if the box didn’t have a piece of masking tape with her name on it, I’d have thought it was brand new. All in all, a good deal for the both of us.
I dunno, but I’m also interested in getting one. It seems like it would be a good way to get my kids (and the wife and I) to have some extra fruits/vegetables.
I’d be interested in hearing if it’s a bitch to clean or if it’s more/less economical than buying fruit juice.
No idea as to the economics, but I just juiced two more apples. I didn’t even clean it last night, I just rinsed it and left it out. I had one before that was a pain in the butt, to the point that I stopped using it. But this one’s moving parts are small, it’s just an auger, as opposed to an entire centerfuge. I’m as lazy as they come, especially in the kitchen, but clean up is a breeze with this model, http://www.omegajuicers.com/8003_8005.html .
I had one briefly and it’s a pain because a shitoad of fruit makes one little glass of juice. And then you have pulp and leftover solids to dispose of. Of course if you have a garbage disposal that’s probably not a big deal.
It just seemed like a lot of trouble for not much product, and fiber being the main benefit of juice, I’m not sure how much of that is left in the juice.
