The recent thread What’s your global ranking? prompts me to suggest we have some fun with Julian Day conversions and such.
If you need some background, see Julian Day for
Julian day is used in the Julian date (JD) system of time measurement for scientific use by the astronomy community, presenting the interval of time in days and fractions of a day since January 1, 4713 BC Greenwich noon. Julian date is recommended for astronomical use by the International Astronomical Union.
The Julian Day Number (JDN) is the Julian day with the fractional part ignored. It is sometimes used in calendrical calculation, in which case, JDN 0 is used for the date equivalent to Monday January, 4713 BC in the Julian calendar.
and more details.

Something I discovered long ago related to James Byron Dean (February 8, 1931 - September 30, 1955)
The Julian date for CE 1931 February 8 00:00:00.0 UT is
JD 2426380.500000
The Julian date for CE 1955 September 30 00:00:00.0 UT is
JD 2435380.500000
Difference in days = 9000.
================================
Today’s JD is Nov/18/2011 = 2455884 JD
See what fun things you can add to this thread involving JD conversions and differences.

Another example with relevance today:
John Fitzgerald “Jack” Kennedy (May 29, 1917 - November 22, 1963)
The Julian date for CE 1917 May 29 00:00:00.0 UT is
JD 2421377.500000
The Julian date for CE 1963 November 22 00:00:00.0 UT is
JD 2438355.500000

Okay. Since I have two dud threads that relate to this idea, I won’t start another. But I had the notion of adding to the thrills of the Celebrity Death Pools where Zsa Zsa’s name crops up enough for me to know I’m not the only one thinking about her.
So rather than bump Morbid question: Is anybody else waiting for the other shoe to drop? [Zsa Zsa Gabor] which I started 09-08-2010, 09:46 AM and which had gotten to Post #17 on 11-03-2011, 09:23 AM, I opted to kick this thread with the challenge to use this information gathered from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zsa_Zsa_Gabor
Zsa Zsa Gabor, born February 6, 1917
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/JulianDate.php
to see that Ms. Gabor has accumulated (as of today)
34645 days = 94.85284 Years = 94 Years and 311 Days
============================
Now, the “added thrills” concept goes to the prediction of how many days she will last, and/or what Julian Day will mark her passing.
Other variations on the same theme are welcomed.

I tried it for my still living grandmother, who was born December 17th, 1904. But it wouldn’t give a number.
I was 2747804616.

Here’s what I got:
Today’s JD is 2455910
So that makes your grandmother 39079 days old. Divide by 365.25 to get 106.9924709 years. Subtract the 106 for .9924709 and multiply that by 365.25 to get 362.5 and that makes her 106 years and 362.5 days old.
I’m not clear on where your 2747804616 came from. Are you?

That number is how many people were on the planet when I was born.

Great! I had just forgotten that I had quoted that thread as a lead-in to this one. Thanks for helping my alleged memory!

Here’s a sample of the sort of numbers fun to be had:
The Julian date for CE 1917 February 6 00:00:00.0 UT is
JD 2421265
The Julian date for CE 2011 December 15 00:00:00.0 UT is
JD 2455910
which means that Ms. Gabor has accumulated (as of today)
34645 days = 94.85284 Years = 94 Years and 311 Days
===========================
In 55 days Zsa Zsa will have made it to a total of 34700 days.
That will be JD 2455965 and if she makes it she’ll be 95 years and 1 day old on
JD 2455965.000000 is
CE 2012 February 07 12:00:00.0 UT Tuesday
