Hey LavenderBlue that is a great rant. I wish the time would come (soon!) when you no longer had to rant about that however. I think the island for stupid is a great idea, but it’ll need to be a really big island.
All week long: “Just wait until Friday, the heat wave will be past! It will be cool! You will have rainbows and unicorns!”
Whoo-hoo, the high today will only be 86F, versus the 94F of yesterday. However, the dewpoint will still be around 70F.
So technically, they’re not liars, as the temp will be lower. It will still be miserable as fuck out there and the lawn will have to wait yet another day to be mowed.
Hear hear!
So, we’ve had a crazy heat wave. Yesterday it was 97 degrees with a heat index of 103. Today it’s 97 with a heat index of 107.
I have no air conditioner at work. ![]()
Well, they’re predicting a low tonight of !!!62!!! (woot! open windows again!) and a high tomorrow of 76. Now if only I wasn’t going to be somewhere inside from 11am to 6pm tomorrow.
Trade you, Chimera. I’ll sit inside, you can come over and mow the lawn and clean the gutters.
Dear Mom,
That “internet computer” is not a wizard. Sometimes I have to dig around for the information you want. If I say I’m having difficulties looking up something and ask if I can call you back in 5 minutes, don’t take it personally. Seriously. I always do call you back, even if it’s to say I still can’t find whatever.
Yeah really. Back in my “previous life” my then-boyfriend was out of work. When I suggested that he could take the bus to a job he said “I won’t stoop so low as to take public transit.”
Uh, asshole - the only reason why we have a home and food and the bills are paid is because I “stoop so low” as to take public transit every goddamn day and have done it my entire life.
Now that I drive I still take the GO Bus to Toronto when I can because I can park for free at the station and sleep all the way to Union. It’s a sweet deal. Anybody who disparages public transit is ignorant.
Yeah, that’s an… interesting attitude. I’ve heard of people being self-righteous because they DO use public transit (better for the environment, etc), but not because they don’t. How odd.
I think some people are just proud that they own a car (or can afford to own a car), and don’t have to put up with various inconveniences public transit can cause (having to wait a while for the bus [sometimes in bad weather conditions], possibly taking a long time, dealing with annoying passengers, etc.) My mother calls this a “car mentality.”
I use public transit because it’s inexpensive, it’s good for the environment, and because I can’t drive (trying to learn, long story) and don’t have a car. Even if I ever do take and pass my driving test, I’ll probably still be a nervous driver, if I do get to drive at all.
My current rant: I just found out that there’s a name for the tan that I tend to get every year. It’s called a “farmer’s tan” and apparently, someone out there decided that it LOOKS BAD and got a bunch of people to agree.
Really. I don’t think any natural tan looks bad. Just those stupid fake orange ones.
One of the class guinea pigs died overnight, to be noticed by (of course) one of the daycare’s 3 year olds. Goodbye Isabelle- You were a cute little fat furball.
IT’S SO FUCKING HOT!
I’m going home.
Feckit stupid cough. So instead of being at home sleeping under a blanket of furry purry cat n bunny goodmess I am in hosptal tryingto get my latest chest infevtion/sinus to resolve. Gah. It is 4:27am and I have only been able to get 10minuts of sleep at a time. I feel really bad that I am probably keeping half the ward awake.
I probably should have phrased that better as I have lived in South Dakota all my life. As a matter of fact, I lived in Wall for six years so trips to Rapid City were pretty much a weekly or more occurrence. I was just confused about the Colorado reference.
What on God’s Green Earth did you do in Wall for six years???
Is there like, a prison there or something?
Worked for Wall Drug, what else?

Sending healing thoughts your way. (And ear plugs for your wardmates … ?)
I didn’t get my driver’s license till I was 28, for similar reasons. I was nervous for a while and it’s still not my favorite thing to do, but every one of the few accidents I’ve been in for the last three decades has been the other driver’s fault, and I’ve never had a ticket except for one for an expired emissions sticker. I think the fact that I’m conscious of the dangers makes me a better driver, so once you do get around to it you will probably get to be very good at it.
The parents make the decisions, and the kids pay the price - that’s part of the problem I have with the anti-vaxxers.
I choose to drive rather than take transit (and Calgary transit leaves a lot to be desired, too), but I certainly don’t look down on anyone who uses transit. I used to use transit all the time; my perspective in my forties is that I’ve done my time on the bus. ![]()
This is what my feet look like every summer - I get a fantastic sock tan, because I garden all summer with socks and work shoes on. I don’t care much about it, but it does look funny when I wear sandals. ![]()
Hah - I was looking for a picture of a bad farmer’s tan, and I found this instead - 99% of the Irish population right now! ![]()
I am obviously missing things, but every time I try to go back a page on my phone the reader app dies! Dammit I do most of my reading boards on the go waiting in lines and such, so now I have to log in at home to be sure I’m not missing something!
Other grumpiness, I’m house hunting and it freaking me out. I feel like I’m missing something and I have my eye on a place and may be putting in an offer but part of me is saying its coming together too easily, this decision and moving forward. Where is the catch? This place has been on the market for a bit, is there something I am missing or am I really able to see beyond the junk the current residents have that no one else can? Shouldn’t it be harder than this? I’m afraid I’ll buy, move in, and discover it’s ready to fall around my ears. It’s a foreclosure so should I be more afraid? I have help, it’s not just me looking at this thing. BF is much more versed in this sort of thing and says it looks good, now I need to get it looked at by a professional.
You didn’t miss any pictures, don’t worry.
Good! I want to see poofy dresses!
