Do you remember the mini-est rant of September?

Ultra, ultra mini, but:

Is there anything more inconsiderate than someone who, when he accidentally pulls the sheet off my side of the bed, just lays down and goes to sleep? Seriously? Grump, growl, grumble…

The mini-est rant of September…

Would that be something along the lines of “I broke a nail”?

I dunno. Right now, it might be “I just got three wasp stings on my fingers because I stupidly forgot to look at a handle before opening a door on the utility trailer.”

The thread title was because I had Earth, Wind, and Fire’s September running through my head. And it’s almost impossible to remain in a bad mood with a soundtrack by EW&F.

Uh… Lacunae… aren’t you the one who stepped on a wasp like, a week ago?

You got wasp problems, girl.

My vote for shortest rant is “people shouldn’t.”

Yep - that was me! We’ve been invaded by the bastards. Last week, I sprayed around the house/under the eaves/under the porches. Got about 15 nests. Forgot to spray the utility trailer. (And, come to think of it, I should probably check the cover on the LP tank and around the well. After my antihistimine “high” eases off!)

It’s “nuke 'em from orbit” time.

September weather is off to a shitty start. This week we’re having a nasty heat wave with highs in the upper eighties. Then we get two crappy weekend days with a huge chance of rain. Fuck. I want a Sunday where the weather is 88 and sunny, not one where the high is 77 with a 60% chance of rain.

Ugh. Stupid heat, dammit mom, and fuck you CBS.

I have DirecTV and CBS just pulled their programming from them. Unfortunately, CBS is one of my mother’s favorite channels to sleep thro- sorry watch, so of course, she’s pitching a fit. She wants to drop DirecTV for Dish Network RIGHT NOW. I explained that CBS is the one with the problem and they can pull this same stunt on any other provider any time they want. Doesn’t matter. Dish is offering a $200 spend anywhere card for signing up and she’s desperate to get her hands on it. I have to call them tomorrow and see what kind of catch there is to getting the card.

My mother loves jumping from place to place to get the best deal possible (because she’s insanely greedy and wasteful but that’s another rant altogether) on everything from appliances to cabbage. Mostly because she doesn’t have to do any of the real work. She just sits on the couch and screams and snaps at me to get it done. She thinks she can just leave Dish in year when DirecTV’s rates drop again like she has in the past. Nope. It’s a minimum two year commitment with a $20/month charge for every month short of two years you cancel. She’s sure she can work around it.

Changing companies is a pain and I don’t want to be bothered with it right now. Things were OK until CBS had to go stir shit up. My mom can’t/won’t watch TV online so that’s not an option. I just hope I can get through this nonsense without having to run all over town all week. I’m anemic and some of my meds make me heat sensitive. I’m also starting menopause. Hot flashes and 90+ degree weather are a brutal combo. When you add in her abusive behavior toward me I start to think maybe I should just get into the car and keep going.

Nitpick: The company you should be mad at is Raycom, not CBS. CBS isn’t (currently) in a dispute with DirecTV. All of Raycom’s stations are off of DirecTV right now, whether they’re CBS, NBC, ABC, or Fox stations.

Doesn’t the TV have a tuner? CBS is an over-the-air station. It’s free with a tuner and antenna.

Well apparently I could have started this rant last month and kept going for a week! I had my baby in May 2013 and only started getting my period back in June of this year. So far, it’s been erratic to say the best. I started last Monday with two days of barely anything, then nothing, then a dribble, then nothing, then a dribble, then it decided to kick in full force on Saturday night while we are camping! Luckily we were at a state park with my family and my sister-in-law was better prepared. UGH. This being a girl thing sucks.

Sodalite, how far is your mother’s house from the CBS affiliate’s broadcasting tower? I used TV Fool as a guide when I was selecting an HD antenna; I can pick up a surprising number of channels with just an indoor antenna.

Avarie537, surprise vacation periods suck. That happened to me one time, except that instead of camping I was driving on the New Jersey Turnpike. >.<

sigh I found out over the weekend that my mom got hacked by one of those phone calls that tells old people their computer has a problem, and the caller is from Microsoft and they have to fix it. I didn’t make her go into detail or berate her about it, she already feels enough like an idiot. I’m not sure whether they got any money out of her, but they toasted her laptop. She doesn’t do any online banking or anything. She might have used a credit card on Amazon at Christmastime, but I’m pretty sure there wasn’t anything for them to get. sigh

She has a new laptop now, and her IT friend from the company she’s retired from has the old one. He’s installing a fresh OS and she’ll leave that one at their lake house. I think she said he will also set her up on the new one with better precautions when he drops off the old refurbished one. I hope so. I really hope she learned her lesson and only lost the cost of a new laptop. sigh

Grandma had a hefty case of dementia her last few years. I’m worried Mom is going to have it, too.

Noted and amended. Fuck you Raycom.

I don’t know if the TV has what it needs to pick up the channel or not and she couldn’t care less. I mentioned that very thing to her last night but she’s more interested in the $200 card than anything else. Anything else includes any toll the process of doing all this takes on me.

Holy crap! I am so afraid of those nasty things that I think I would legitamately try to move out.

Rant of the day - Labor Day seems to have messed up trash pick up for our apartment complex and now all of the dumpsters (within reasonable walking distance) are full to bursting. I finally got my house clean and I can’t throw my trash out :(.

Short anti-rant:
I HAVE A KIDNEY!
Rest of the rant: Screw you, doctors, for initially denying my donor because she’s young (24), hasn’t started her career and still lives at home. They told her she should wait a year, get out on her own, start her own life. One doctor even told her “Once you see the world, you may change your mind”. And, in her mind, starting a career THEN taking a month off for transplant sounds stupid. As does having the inability to pay rent for that month. She contacted the social worker today and laid it all out on the table. She wants to do this, the doctors pissed her off, she has made the decision.
Now all she needs to do is lose some weight and we’re good to go.
happy dance

Oh, and another rant: Child of mine, it’s not MY problem that you cannot sleep at night. I suggest you leave your door open for a breeze - nope. Leave a window open - nope. Sleep in the living room - nope. It’s not my fault you are choosing to sleep in a sauna. If I could afford central air, I would. Oh, and when I ask you to pick up the yard so I may mow, I mean pick up everything. Leaving a random beer can (thanks neighbors!) and twigs means I have to keep starting and stopping.

This calls for a Snoopy Dance!

She needs to lose some weight? Waitaminute. How much does a kidney weigh? Problem solved!

Seriously, congratulations.

Congrats, MissTake!!!

My problem today? Radiator. Done. History. Money I don’t have to fix it. Why me? Why the fuck is it always me? And I’ll have to limp the motherfucking van around tomorrow to get smokes, and to pick up the new radiator. THAT should be fucking fun! :frowning:

That’s fabulous news, MissTake! I’m happy for you.
