July Bugging the Shit out of you? Rant about it here.

I found this via Facebook today; I’m thinking any site named worldtruth.tv probably can’t be trusted…

On a similar note (but not as stupid, I hope), I drove by our old house today - the new tenants have skirted my poor baby trees! The pine and the blue spruce (that we grew from a tiny little treeling) have had the bottom half of their branches cut off - I don’t know what their crime was, to deserve that kind of punishment. The white spruce was dying (from negligence, since no one looked after it since we moved out), so I sort of understand why they butchered that one, but the other two, I don’t get it.

Good goddess; why would anyone do that? Is there an “Ugly Tree Contest” in progress?

Without knowing how low the lowest branches used to be v. now are, I can’t really speculate that they’re trying to make the trees unclimbable for the local urchins…

Or possibly make it possible to walk underneath with a lawn mower without getting an impromptu hair-brushing.

Broadcasting the truth since “2011”? Priceless. I also love how they use handy dandy shorthand for stuff (MSM, vaxmania) and then immediately spell out what those things mean, entirely missing the point of abbreviations and acronyms…

mrAru’s sister bought a house with some mature fruit trees that the owner and previous renter let get away from them, they are like 30 feet tall - so they chopped all the lower limbs off, he says that the lowest limb is like 10 feet off the ground. Just get a freaking date palm if you don’t want short fruit trees…:dubious: His sister would love to have the fruit trees accessible by something other than a cherry picker.

Blue spruce have branches all the way to the ground; nothing will grow underneath them anyway. The soil under evergreen trees is usually too acidic. And they are a poor climbing tree in their natural state: the needles are short and sharp. I have no idea why anyone would trim the lower branches off, unless the tree was diseased in some way. It’s a shame. :frowning:

Buy plain aspirin and acetaminophen (I get the 88 cent bottles at WalMart) and take them together in your usual doses. No caffeine!

On a side note, you can also get acetaminophen with caffeine (24 count for 88 cents at Walmart). It’s called Tension Headache Relief. Taking it in combo with the 88 cent aspirin is cheaper than the Excedrin!

It really is a shame; I put a bed of mulch and cones around the bottom of these trees so they wouldn’t have that ugly bald patchiness under them that spruces always have, so they didn’t cut them for mowing purposes. I think it was done to allow people to see the front of the house; that’s been a “security” measure around here for a while now. Poor spruce and pine trees; getting all butchered for what is (to me) no good reason. :frowning:

I was just watching part of the news conference in San Francisco regarding the airplane crash today.

Four public officials including the mayor and the FBI agent in charge spoke, and not one of them referred to the crash. Four times the word “incident” was used. And there was one reference to a “hard landing”.

Is there general agreement amongst officialdom that it is bad form to call it an airplane crash, lest the public get upset and commerce suffer?

It was a freaking CRASH. It’s amazing so many people walked away from it.

Thank you all, the day went great. The look of love and happiness when he put the ring on my finger made me test out my waterproof makeup. It worked

My checked in bag got lost, so I had to spend my first day as a married person all nakie. Dang, I suffered so! For the record, Hawaii is the very best place ever to shop for a new bathing suit, and as long as you have a beach wrap and sandals all is good when you go out for dinner.

I think its possible that our AZ home is going to burn tonight. Tony and other friends have packed up and are ready to go as soon as the see flames. Its possible that they are just nervous, but from what my husband says (dang, I love saying that…my husband…), the fire is about 3 miles away and in the brush.

Tony tells me that the trucks from the local fire station are not there. That’s what is scaring everyone. Those guys are house fire guys, not wild fire guys. If they are deploying, things are bad.

Yay, flatlined! Glad you enjoyed the day and can now enjoy knowing it’s over! Plus, Hawaii.

That’s scary about the fires, though. We got a little rain yesterday for the first time in weeks, hoping the thunderstorms don’t produce lightning, too.

Congratulations, flatlined! It sounds like it all went beautifully (and the stuff that didn’t makes for years of entertaining stories).

There was a truck parked across the sidewalk down the street yesterday; annoying, but it happens sometimes. The idiot is STILL there today - I took a picture of the truck and plate, and I see that the plate is from out of province, and it has no tags on it - the truck is not legal to drive without them, and it definitely isn’t legal to park across a sidewalk. I’m trying to decide now if I should bust their asses right now, and have the truck towed, or put a note on the truck asking them to get it the hell off the sidewalk or it will be towed. I’m leaning towards the latter, because if they’re from out-of-town, they need it to go home with again, but damn, that’s an asshole thing to do - go visiting somewhere, and park across a sidewalk the whole time you’re there.

The way he’s parked.

The plate.

Hope the insurance on the old homested is paid up.

Suggest you bring back Kona coffee. I should have brought back more on my honeymoon.

Which island are you visiting?

While I’m at it, here’s a picture of the skirted trees. There are three trees there - the larger two are a white spruce and a pine, the littler one in the back is a blue spruce we grew from a baby.

Possibly because they don’t have a definitive cause yet. Rightly or wrongly, “crash” implies an accident to many people and they don’t for sure at the moment know that it wasn’t terrorism or something (not likely, I don’t think, but they don’t know for sure). I seem to recall more than a few cases recently where politicians were lambasted by stupid people because they did or didn’t blame terrorists at the right times–so they may just want to use as neutral language as possible to deflect such things.

Long ago a now former friend decided that he (for some inexplicable reason) wanted to build a small deck in the corner of his back yard where there was a pine tree and a spruce tree. So he skirted them like that and built a deck underneath. A deck that he basically never used. Because for some unexplained reason, it was always covered in pine tar… :smack:

Where are the pics of the big fluffy dress? Gotta show off the Texas wedding finery! Also how was Tony’s trip out? Sounds like it must have been thankfully uneventful!

Dammit. Charter bought our cable company.

The neighbours are blasting music and it’s nearly midnight. So much for my plan of sleeping tonight.
