Or The Simpsons Movie.
Basic Instinct and the infamous Sharon Stone beaver shot
*Half Moon Street *Sigourney Weaver
*Death And The Maiden *Sigourney Weaver
*The Last Detail *Carol Kane
It’s not even full nudity, but “Oh my God, Mary Poppins flashes her tits!” was the only reason S.O.B. got any notice at all.
The Piano was a highly acclaimed film with Oscar-winning performances, but I bet the first image that comes to many people’s mind when remembering the movie is naked Harvey Keitel (although it wasn’t his first nude scene). It really should have been called “The Pianist.”
The recent The Watchmen may be remembered, to the extent that it is remembered at all, to be the first major motion picture to prominently feature a CGI schlong.
ETA: Oops, I see somebody mentioned S.O.B., but I gave a little more info, so there.
Oh, and there are lots of other reasons to remember Monty Python’s Life of Brian, but I remember it was the first time I’d seen full frontal male nudity (Graham Chapman) in a feature film. I recall wondering if I’d really seen what I thought I’d seen.
Sirens - Elle Macpherson
I just checked IMDb. Talk about remembering a movie only for its nudity. Hugh Grant starred? Portia di Rossi? Sam Neill?
At the time the only thing the articles talked about was that Macpherson and the other models had to put on weight so they’d look good in the nude scenes.
Well two obvious ones not mentioned:
Striptease - Demi Moore
Showgirls - Elizabeth Berkley
Bound
Angel Heart.
Naked Huxtable. What else could you want?
28 posts and no mention of Fast Times at Ridgemont High??
Dunno about this one. I had cable with a movie channel in the late 80’s and this movie was on pretty constant rotation. There’s a long scene where Sigourney is talking with some guy while she exercises topless on an exercise bike but the dialog is so tedious that I was never able to sit through the whole scene. Seriously, it was about the least erotic topless scene imaginable (up until Showgirls was released).
Sigourney’s strip tease in Alien was 1000 times sexier than anything in Half Moon Street, and she never even got naked.
What a coincidence - that is all I remember about the film as well.
Women in Love with it’s infamous extended scene in which Alan Bates and Oliver Reed wrestle completely naked. In some countries local censors ordered that scene cut so it skips from the actors fully clothed alone in a room to naked and sweaty laying on a carpet (which of course gives the impression that they were fucking instead of wrestling). In Argentina it was even called “the Great Buggery scene”.
That’s Headly!
Airplane! had that brief torso. Kitten Natividad Uncredited.
You may have seen an edited version of Half Moon Street. There is a scene where her boyfriend comes into the bathroom where she is taking a bath and she is shown naked from the waist up with a clear view of her breasts.
Maybe it’s because I only became familiar with them older and fatter, but that is a scene I’d pay NOT to see. Or not pay and still not see, which is how it worked out.
I think the point he was making is that Weaver never got naked in Alien.
Taking a step beyond nudity, I’m pretty sure the only thing The Brown Bunny will ever be remembered for is Chloe Sevigny’s fellatio scene.
Did anyone really go “Holy crap!! Phoebe Cates is doing a nude scene?!” with regard to that one? Or even “Holy crap!! Jennifer Jason Leigh is doing two nude scenes?!”? Did anyone really know who they were before this movie?
Getting naked in the movie that basically makes a career is not the same as a known actress (or actor for you sausage fans) choosing to get naked in a role, which from the OP seems to be what the topic is meant to be about. Though I could be wrong, if so, sorry.
That’s without getting into whether Fast Times is known just or mostly for the nude scenes, which is probably not the case, memorable as they are.
I agree to a certain extent. Movies like Swordfish or Sex And Death 101 or Hotel Chevalier are noted for their nude scenes bcause they feature established stars who haven’t done nude scenes before.
But I’d apply it retroactively as well. A movie can be noted for a nude scene if the person in it later goes on to become a well-known star. Such would be the case with movies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High or Twilight or My Name Is Tanino. After the star becomes famous, people will then go back to see her naked.
