Long before my time here, there was a ban on certain words (in the The BBQ Pit subforum only) on account of their being offensive. This ban was lifted in 2018, also before my time here. That history is probably relevant to the reluctance to ban words outright today, inside and outside of the BBQ Pit. Someone else with more knowledge will have to fill you in on the details.
Current rules do not acknowledge the concept of inherently-offending language. To the best of my knowledge you would not be warned for mentioning an ethnic/sexual slur verbatim, provided you are not using it to offend. You may be noted however as moderators are well within their rights to tone-police.
