And the eekie is because it was 200 liters or because it was Diet Ginger Ale?
In reality, it was only 82 liters (41 bottles), and a fistful of rain checks. I was ahead of the Pepsi truck.
I’m trying to sign up for a Twitch account but keep getting stonewalled by the Captcha. At first I thought it was just because the Captchas were shit - things like mmnmn and that crap - but it’s apparently a known bug. I know this because there’s been a thread active since 2013 telling them to fix the fucking thing.
Did you know that its possible to burn fruit preserves in a crock pot on low heat? I didn’t either until today. I carefully washed the peaches, coated them with sugar and spices, followed the recipe and let them sit until we went to bed and turned the pot on. The recipe said to NOT open the lid and stir them.
How the fuck did I manage to burn food in a crock pot in under 12 hours?
I give up. The only reason I’m ever going to step foot in the kitchen again is to feed the critters and put their bowls in the dishwasher. Of course, I’ll probably fuck that up as well and flood the house.
Well, I can open pop cans without cutting myself. Oh wait, I just bragged that I can do that, so next time I want to go online I won’t be able to do it because I’ll have cut my thumb off and my hand will be in a splint. FML.
The air conditioner upstairs has quit working.
This thread title has been an earworm for me for the past two weeks. I’m going to try dispelling it by passing it along to others. And the easiest way to do that, IME, is by putting appropriate lyrics to it (don’t worry; I only know the melody for the first part, so it’ll be over soon):
June rants is busting out all over,
Right here in this corner of the Pit
Folks who won’t use proper grammars,
Anti-vaxxers, right-wing spammers
Get a ration of well-earned Doper shit.
Shouldn’t that be proper grammers?
Eek because of how much Aspartame and Phenylalanine that implies The Vorlon is consuming on a daily basis.
And leeched plastic from storing all those plastic bottles of an acidic soda.
Tell me, do you get huge headaches?
I’ve lost count of how many no-show peds I’ve lose in the washer thus far. Mind you, I bought a 10-pack of them for a ridiculously low price at our local closeout chain. That makes me feel a bit better. OTOH…where the hell do they go and why does the washer have such an insatiable appetite for them? And why won’t it eat actual pairs instead of a random one here and there?
That’s actually a little scary. They can go over the top of the agitator basket and down in the workings of the washer, and mess things up real good.
Don’t ask how I know, suffice to say I wash mine by hand & dry them on the towel rack.
Friends paid close to a thousand dollars to have one removed from their beagle’s intestine.
I’ve also experience what escaped sockish things can do to washers.
Learned a lesson from it: always use a lingerie bag for lightweight/little stuff.
Well, it should be “proper grammar,” but I want it to be a bit better rhyme with “spammers.”
That’s why you should get a zippered net bag to launder them in.
ETA: What StarvingButStrong said.
:D:D
Hey folks. Long time since I’ve been around, but I’m coming back (Don’t call it a comeback!). Please forgive me if I’m forgetting the etiquette of the Pit, but I felt I needed to rant recently, so here goes something… My rant about my experience with a certain game designer.
It's June 15th, 2015. This whole messy business started for me back in December of 2012. Until this point I've kept my mouth shut due to the request of others involved, and due to the vain hope that, at some point, I'd gain remuneration for all this. As you'll no-doubt figure out quickly, that was really optimistic and a touch foolish of me.
In December of 2012, Mike, a friend of mine at the time, put out a call for freelancers for a game-writing project. As I had nothing major on my plate at that moment, and wanted to both help out and to get my game-writing back in print again, I quickly offered my services.
The project was 'Cairn', a role-playing game about anthropomorphic animals in a fantasy setting. I was contracted at 5 cents a word, and was told that I had two weeks to come up with a large chunk of product, namely rules for various 'character classes' in the game. From the sound of things, we were aiming to have things done by year's end.
Late December approached, and I was sending in updates as I wrote them. I was contacted by Mike to let me know that the deadline had extended, and we were now shooting for the end of January. Would I like to write more? Sure I would! So I continued writing.
The end of January drew nigh, and again the deadline was extended. Mid February was now the target. I began to write and detail the world of Cairn- I was given a rough sketch of a map, and told to flesh out the various towns and landmarks with story and role-play hooks.
These were all things I enjoyed writing, but something in the back of my mind began to get suspicious. The kickstarter for Cairn had raised 24k (of its 2k goal) at that point, and the hype was high, but something didn't smell right to me. When I finished my world-work, I sent it to both Mike and Ross (the co-producer) and let them know I was done.
I waited a week and contacted Mike to ask him about payment. I heard nothing.
I waited a few more days and contacted again. Nothing.
Finally, I contacted Ross. Almost immediately afterward, I got contacted by Mike.
When I talked to Mike about the payment on Feb 22nd, he said, “I [...] have to get through figuring out where our money is at.” This, unsurprisingly, was a bit of a red flag for me. When I asked if there was some problem with the finances, he told me, “i won't screw you over dude - not the way I roll : )”
Over the next month I kept gently trying to push about the money. In March, Mike asked me to not say anything about any of this; he had just started an Indigogo campaign to try to raise money for Cairn. The game that he'd already raised 24,000 dollars for.
So, I started doing a little research. It turns out that Mike hadn't just done Cairn as a kickstarter. He'd put out three successful KS's. Nystul's Infinite Dungeon, Axes and Anvils, and Cairn. Between the three, he'd brought in roughly 75,000 dollars in 9 months. He'd produced zero product in that time. The whole thing started to look like a ponzi scheme (although possibly an unintentional one).
I started talking to other people involved in Cairn. None of them I spoke to had gotten paid a dime. Some of them had also worked on one of the other projects and had not been paid for those, either. It seemed that Mike had all our work, and had made the rest of the money vanish.
Around this time, Mike decided to run a convention based around Axes and Anvils (which had still not been released). He sank a whole lot of money into it, and it ended up not happening. He also went and got a tattoo based on Axes and Anvils, and attended several conventions. Many people assumed this was where the Kickstarter money was going. There continued to be no product for any of the kickstarters.
Eventually, the Infinite Dungeon was picked up by another company. I once again contacted Mike about payment for Cairn, trying to figure out if we could split the payment up over several months. Mike spent the conversation passive-aggressively playing the victim, telling me there was no money available, then finally agreeing just to end the conversation. I still kept my mouth shut about all this, as I said I would.
Months passed, and I heard nothing. I nudged Mike about monthly payments, and he once again said there was no money, but that I -would- get paid eventually. At this point, I heard through the grapevine that Mike was trying to pawn off his responsibilities for Axes and Anvils and Cairn onto other publishers as well.
I'm friends with Mike's ex-wife as well, and so I contacted her and asked her about Mike's financial proclivities. I won't go into a lot of detail about the conversation, but in a nutshell she informed me that Mike had a history of making money 'disappear' and then shutting down communication about it. I wasn't the first (nor I suspect the last) person he'd do this to.
Eventually Mike ditched out of Cairn completely and handed it over to Ross. Ross wrote for the love of the game, and, like me, really wanted to see the damn thing published. I re-negotiated with him and agreed to take 3 cents a word, and he and I were off like gangbusters. We did a lot of editing and re-writes, and started ramping up for production.
Ross connected himself with SoulJar games, and said company completed the publishing of Cairn. Ross and I met face-to-face for the first time at GenCon 2014, and I was given a hard copy of the game. I was exceedingly proud of having it finally out there, and Ross told me he had ideas for expansions for the game, and that I would definitely be 'in' for the writing thereof.
It's now almost a year later. I recently contacted Ross about either more writing or, at the very least, payment for the work I've done. This morning, I received word that Ross has been “Kicked out” of SoulJar. I'm awaiting details of what that actually means.
I know from a legal standpoint I'm screwed. I made a good faith agreement with people who cannot pay me at all. While that bothers me (rather a lot) what really irks me is that there are people who made money off my work (Ross and SoulJar to a limited extent, Mike to a major extent) while I got nothing. Hells, Mike walked away with 75k for work other people did, and still continues to play the victim whenever anyone brings up anything about it. It just angers me. Intensely. I look to the kickstarters and I see red, as do many of the backers. I'm really frustrated about it all, so... I needed to rant about it. That's really about it.
Update: sister has just text and told us(older sister and me) that was are no longer her sisters and that we should not contact her ever even if it concerning our mother . I am beyond sad at this point. There is nothing I can do she needs help.
I would greatly appreciate it if my ex-wife’s family would stop posting dead baby pictures on Facebook.
Dilemma. Switched phone service in May. First bill was $5 higher than it should have been. No problem, got it fixed (credited the $5 which was just the difference between one plan that includes international travel and one that doesn’t) and on the right plan going forward. Got the June bill today, which is the correct plan, but it appears the lease payment for the new phone got dropped when they corrected the service charge. So the new bill is $60+ instead of the $90+ it should be.
Could turn into a hassle if I decide to trade the phone in next year for another new one, as the lease allows. Will probably be a hassle now to get it fixed. Guess it’s a fairly minor hassle. Argh. OK, I’ll get it fixed.
Good lord! The school play “Grease” was Friday night. I STILL can’t get those bloody songs out of my head. “Look at me I’m Sandra Dee…” I’m going to blast Back in Black for the rest of the night…see it that cures it. sigh
