An unidentified bug bit me on the knee when we were out doing yardwork on Saturday. Now the bite area is red, swollen, hot, and dripping serum. Today I started taking Benadryl and now I’m sitting here trying to work and feeling decidedly WeIrD. This stuff better work because I really don’t want to go to the doctor.
I thought it was to save time (it takes less time to talk over a song’s intro than to finish introducing the song and then play the song intro.)
I hope you feel better - Benadryl does weird things to me, too, but I’ll use it to try to avoid the dreaded doctor. But…
Great user name/post combo!
Those dudes should be damned to the Hell of perpetual Elevator musak. I hates them. No matter what genre they talk over.
That’s simply false, since at least a couple radio station advertise themselves as never talking over the music.
WMMO also made a promise to always identify songs by title and artist frequently, and to never talk over the music as it played, as many Top 40 stations and DJs like to do.
Here’s a chat board about it.
One person did say “And in the 70s and 80s they did this to avoid home taping.” but a lot of DJs answered and said nothing of the sort.
Ouch. My condolences. Something like that happened to me right after I had written a story, which is why I now save the working copies of whatever I’m writing on Dropbox only. I put it on my hard drive when it’s done (and then copy that folder back to Dropbox).
That’s true in many cases, but it was never a law, only station policy AFAIK.
Home taping discouraged? On KMOD back in Tulsa for the 7th day (7 album sides), they would count down until the start so that you could hit the record button perfectly.
I once put in a request to a station just so that I could finish off the perfect mix tape for a girlfriend.
I learned that I could bake ham and eggs in muffin tins and they come out perfect. (spray the bowls or whatever they are called with cooking spray, put in a slice of ham, if you feel like it add some diced tomatoes and grated cheese, crack an egg over it, salt and pepper, then bake for 18 minutes at 350) I was AMAZED. When I mentioned it to my BFF, there was a long moment of silence before she asked me what custard was. Hey, I know what custard is, its baked eggs…oh right.:smack:
woot!
My computer is ALIVE!
Got home, turned it on, it went into recovery mode and came up. First thing I did was plug in the external drive (found on top of a cabinet under a pile of large cat toys) and back that sucker up!
It’s unacceptable no matter what the genre or the source…some DJs on satellite radio will keep babbling over the song intro too, and they’re rarely actually advertising anything beyond their own channels.
And that’s why I like Pandora.
The school board just fired our local school principal.

She’s highly competent, caring, devoted to our school and our kids. Hell, test scores are up by a nice margin. So it makes perfect sense to fire her. Because this is NJ and NJ is run by morons.
Gee, thanks, Comcast/Xfinity/whatever your current name is. I was getting entirely too complacent about reliable Internet service. Thanks for keeping me on my toes with two outages in one week and tonight’s intermittent “what DNS server?” fun.
My favorite DJ (Mike Platinas, who had a program called Parafernalia in Radio Zaragoza back in the '80s) owned a record store; DJing was a secondary occupation, he did it more for the kick of it than the money. He broke station rules frequently; some of the reasons why he got suspended include:
- celebrating Elvis’ birthday with an all-Elvis program,
- next year, celebrating the birthday of someone who could not be named with an all-rockabilly program,
- playing demo tapes he’d liked,
- one time, he tried to get enough songs about peace for a series of special programs, but he only found enough for one - and enough for three on war. He got suspended after the first “warmongering” program.
- and apparently when his bosses just were sick of him, for repeated offenses of doing exactly what you describe.
Chimera, I’m glad your computer is alive. And LavenderBlue, [that sucks]*80.
No, dont fuck them. Vote the bastards out. Hell, run for the office yourself. I’ll even send you a campaign contribution.
Dear Huskies,
I know you’re bored because it’s been pouring rain for the last 2 days without letup and therefore we can’t take you on a w-a-l-k. I can’t blame you for lying curled on the floor and giving very loud swooning sighs. I can’t blame you for wanting someone to open the back door just to see if it’s stopped raining. I can’t blame you if you’re not hungry. You don’t want snuggles or kisses. You don’t want to play with each other or with myself or Daddy. You just keep whining at random moments. Sometimes it gets so loud that it drills right into my eardrum and reverberates through my skull.
I love you and I’m sorry, babies. I can’t do anything about the weather. But thank you for giving me a taste of what it’s like to be a mother of a young child.
Er… “what it MUST be like” :smack: I don’t edit well in the morning, apparently.
The weather has been shite. The June Bank Holiday weekend was all but ruined by cold, wind, and would you believe it, rain.
Scotland got 4cm of snow in Glencoe today. No bank holiday where I am, but we got thunder and lightning last night which was unexpected, given how cold it was.
