June (Rants) is Busting Out All Over

That’s just for California and doesn’t hold true for all states. Here in South Dakota we don’t have a Superintendent of Public Instruction. We have a Secretary of Education and a State School Board, both of which are appointed by the Governor.

And, just because you are the first person in line doesn’t give you the right to delay the people behind you in line, unless you poll them and get no objections to allowing someone in. Being first in line is a position, not a privilege. (Unless, of course, you are the only person in that line, but it didn’t sound like that was the case here.)

You said: “* I’ve never heard of a superintendent of schools being an elected position*”. I showed there is at least one. And, not exactly a minor example either, being as CA is the most powerful state in the Union.

I can’t get the kind of internet that comes through a cable, it’s got to be mobile-network based.

When there are any clouds in the sky, this area is lucky to get two bars :frowning:

You really are an idiot, aren’t you? Just can’t admit when you’re wrong. Or perhaps (as I am beginning to believe) you can’t understand the difference between a local district superintendent (which are typically and generally appointed by the local school board) and a state-wide elective office that happens to be called Superintendent in one state.

[QUOTE=Roderick Femm]
Psst - there’s a huge difference between the superintendent of a school district, and a State Superintendent of Schools. Just thought I would point that out to you. “The Supe” that you were referring to is for one school district.

Here’s an example from 2012, from the school district I happen to live in:

[QUOTE=San Francisco Examiner]
Richard Carranza will be the next superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District, after the Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday in favor of a $245,000, three-year contract for him.

In your declarative statement " I’ve never heard of a superintendent of schools being an elected position". you did not limit it to "* local district* superintendent ".

Just can’t admit when you’re wrong, eh? And of course, when you’re proven wrong, you resort to personal insults instead of facts and reasoning.

He didn’t say that, I did. And, yes, you are right I should have said 'local superintendent of schools, but I thought that should have been obvious that’s what was being talked about from LavenderBlues’s posts. I guess I should have made accommodations for the reading comprehension impaired.

Whenever I let someone go in front of me in a queue, it’s the person who was directly behind me. That doesn’t delay the rest of the people in the queue at all.

It would never occur to me to offer my place to someone who wasn’t even in the queue to start with. Do other people do that?

Target’s chip readers aren’t working yet, at least around here…heck, I only know of one merchant who has working chip readers, and it’s an independent store. The little brochure that came with one of my chip-enabled cards claimed that the transaction could be processed via magnetic stripe if the chip transaction failed, but it sounds like your local Walmart has installed chip-only readers? Strange.

That seems really bizarre to me. We left England 6 years ago and pretty much everywhere had chip readers there for credit and/or debit cards (and had them for a few years before we left). We moved to Canada and thought it was kinda backward that they didn’t use them here - 6 years ago. In the meantime everyone in Canada has switched over to chip readers and I haven’t swiped a card in I can’t remember how long. Oh wait, I remember; it was the last time I was in the States.

The supermarket I go just takes a blank check, runs it through their check reader to get the bank numbers, and treats it like a debit card. You don’t need to write anything on it.

Of course, I haven’t used a check in months. Everything I do is with cash, debit, phone app, or online purchase.

Not good people, no.

Years ago? That gives me hope. I do love our old dude and am not in a hurry to send him off to the Bridge. You are right that he spends most of his day sleeping. I’ve been home for the last week (floods) and know that he goes from his room to the bedroom and back again. Still, I worry.

First time I called they were running behind. The next time I called one truck had already picked up rock from the quarry and was en route and the second was getting loaded. Two hours after that they called me and said “oh, there’s been a problem, we got to the quarry late and they were closed. We might be able to get you half some time tomorrow and the other half some other day after that.”

I let them know they’re truth bending stinky doo doo heads and as they had not demonstrated proficiency at delivering rock I’d rather not put them out of their comfort zone with such an apparently difficult task and it would be acceptable to continue instead at not doing anything at all, which they’re very good at. (Or something like that, it was very loud and I went into some kind of rage trance)

I’m very sorry, she said. I agreed she’s pathetic, but if she meant she had some remorse for promising something and not doing anything to make it happen I didn’t believe that for a second.

BUT, I have no rock. Instead I have ugly weed block fabric rolled all over my front yard until I might reliably have a day off in which to have rock delivered and rent equipment and complete the job. Which is… ? Fuck my job. But that’s another thread.

I had to defriend someone tonight. I got sick of his posting incredibly stupid shit about “conservative values” and mocking those different than him. He posted this picture:

Comparing the courage of those brave men to Caitlyn Jenner’s “bravery”…not realizing that the brave figures in the pic are GI Joe dolls.

When I moved to the UK a few years ago, I had cards with a stripe but no chip, which caused no end of confusion and dismay amongst the local merchants. They just couldn’t handle the concept. And some of their magnetic stripe readers didn’t work with the cards either, which was fun.

I think its hilarious that all these big box stores can’t get their chip readers to work. Meanwhile, the ones at the head shop down the street from me work perfectly.

IE has installed its new update (IE 11), after rebooting my computer twice to do it. I don’t like it. The dialogue that says “Do you want to make Internet Explorer your default browser” just has “yes” or “no” buttons- it also needs one that says “Fuck you”.

Out of pain meds. Just about out of PTO. No callback from the spine clinic, ‘all lines busy’ when I tried to call them. Crippling pain from the left side of my spine/neck up through my left ear and just above/forward of it. Just about knocked me out a few minutes ago.

Actually slept well though, woke up with my sheets sideways (don’t ask me) and cat laying next to me on her back with legs splayed out and head over the side of the bed. Stayed that way while I showered. Yeah Maggie, I’d like to have stayed that way too, but I had to go to work. :frowning:

I’m getting sick of “this is on you”, meaning “this unfortunate outcome is your fault.” It was overused on Sons of Anarchy (because the main characters, let’s be honest, were a bunch of criminal sociopaths eager to blame others for messes they themselves created) and now it’s popping up all over and almost always inaccurately.
