Without knowing the circumstances fully, I would recommend doing a Google search for “Innocent Spouse” relief. Like I said earlier, it may not be applicable in this situation, but it might be something worth investigating.

By 9am they’d emailed to say they’re witholding the xmas/birthday money they’d been keeping for me to use as deposit money. Yeah.

Going to college at the ripe old age of …closer to 40 than I like to admit - sure does make me feel old. My fellow students don’t know what “trickle down economics” is, that Clinton was impeached but not convicted, or that Cabbage Patch dolls incited violence. When the class was asked what the justification for going into Iraq was - the answers were “oil,” “money,” and “terrorism.” No one ( other than the old lady in the back row - me) knew it was “weapons of mass destruction.”
I was also the only one who knew that today was Juneteenth.
Look on the bright side. If your professor grades on a curve, you’re golden.
Also, history classes are easier if you’ve lived through most of it!

My personal laptop seems to be trying to die. The one the client has given me is both their property and unusable for any things they Do Not Approve Of whether you are at work or not; at least this time I don’t need to run and buy one chop-chop because I need it for work.
Couldn’t the blasted thing have waited a couple of months? Between the cost of moving, the electrician and so forth, this is Not A Good Moment :mad:

Not quite - they probably thought they had, but thankfully I still had enough from my divorce settlement to cover the deposit. That money was earmarked for repairs/appliances/decor etc though.
I think even if we were married, because I got burned so badly before my parents are freaking out at (what they see as) risking losing the deposit and taking on responsibility for a mortgage when I’m currently a stay-at-home-mum.
I’m not an idiot though - this has already been covered, and is being protected by the solicitors paperwork!
My sister’s playing peacemaker. Everyone seems to be calming down, and my dad told her he’d give me the money if I ask for it, and my mum will come out to coffee with me this afternoon if I ask her.
If I was the bigger person, I would. But I’m being petty - they can’t just pull that emotional controlling bullshit one day then expect me to come grovelling back the next?
I’m moving forward without that money in the meantime, and spending the weekend with fiance&child rather than family.
Now… if only the new house we just committed to buying wasn’t 150 metres away from my parents front door

I’m not that close to 40 yet, and since I’m taking night classes it’s not usually too bad but I had a moment in this class where the text book very nicely explained what Y2K was and I wondered what the hell they were smoking because everybody knows about it… only to realize that most people just taking this class during the day would have been about kindergarten age when it was going on and probably not realized the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) panic that was going on. I was of an age to think it might possibly be The End Of The World As We Know It and be fascinated by it.
Damn stupid cat keeps peeing on the floor. :mad: I’ll change the litterboxes soon and hope that won’t happen again.

This is probably gonna open me up to some criticism and while I do recognize the validity / importance of receiving Amber Alerts via my phone, I don’t really think I need to receive alerts for kidnappings / abductions that take place over 290 miles away from me. I keep my phone on “vibrate” at work, but the cacophony of noises that went off in the office once the alert was issued almost made me jump out of my chair.
(And just so you know, they found the child and the kidnapper)
They do that on the off chance that the person is headed your way and you might spot them. They don’t know that you are at work.
Yeah, it’s just the “290+ mile radius thing” that throws me. I wonder what the cut-off is.
If that was the one in Texas today, the news had it listed as a statewide Amber Alert. Which is a lot of area for Texas.
Stuff like that is why I turned Amber Alerts off on my phone, though it doesn’t help that they also appear to be using the National Weather Service system to relay the alerts as well–my local news webpage had a “Severe Weather Alert” notification that, when clicked on, led to a massive page of Amber Alerts, all for the same incident, but one for every county.
I’m going to clean the litterboxes and I did clean up the area of the floor with the cat pee, removing some stuff from the floor there, so hopefully that’ll solve it.
