Did anybody watch last night? I was in the audience - nose bleed section of course.
kd lang was my fav performance for the evening. I really wanted to hear k.os krabbukkit song (not sure of spelling) - great video for that one too. He won 3 junos I think - rap, video and can’t remember the last one.
It was just great to see the amazing Canadian talent live - no I’m not talking billy talent - I’m not a fan, though mr biscuithead is becoming one. Feist was really awesome despite the technical difficulties - plan on listening to more of her.
Too sad that Neil Young couldn’t make it - but I guess you couldn’t have a better excuse - brain surgery is pretty significant I guess…
What’d ya think of Brent Butt? I already love Corner Gas so it wasn’t a hard sell for me.
Any other impressions?
Watching k.d. lang sing was an effing religious experience. She is so underrated.
I loved seeing Gord Downie lecture his microphone stand, but I don’t expect every Joe Canuck to appreciate that one. I can imagine most of the genteel watchers were put out by his twitching. I was watching School Of Rock right up until k.d. came on, so I missed most of the show. From what I gather, I didn’t miss much. The radio DJs were dismissing the first part of the show as “unprofessional”.
I missed it. What did k.d. lang sing?
She sang Helpless, filling in for Neil Young.
I don’t wish illness on anyone, but I think it was an act of G-d that k.d. was needed and available. Young is undoubtedly Canadian Music Royalty, but I don’t know if he could have delivered a performance like k.d.'s last night.
Ah, thanks. She does have an amazing voice. When I got Hymns of the 49th Parallel I listened to it over and over, though I confess a lot of the over and over was for Hallelujah.
She was totally amazing - the sound in the MTS Centre was actually amazing - the hairs on my neck were raised - even where I was sitting.
The unprofessional comment - well I’d say it was technologically way more ambitious than any other junos - one screw up with Feist was horrible, but life I guess. That was the only glitch.
And that talking to the mike thing from the Hip - he did that at the Gala event when they were inducted - it’s part of his schtick. Not that there wasn’t some pot smokin involved but it’s part of new poetry thing. Fascinating - though not necessarily appealing to the masses. His Gala acceptance poem was wierd apparently - co-worker was a volunteer at the event and saw it live. He was dissing other band’s fans. Couched in such poetic terms most people sat around with their mouths open scratching their heads. eh well - whatever works for them - they’ve paid their dues.
