"Jurassic Park"-- All-Time Boxoffice Champ? (for awhile, anyway...)

I know that “Jurassic Park” was incredibly successful way back in the Summer of 1993. (I saw it three times at the theatre!) Was it the top-grossing movie of all time until “Titanic” came out in 1997? The IMDB shows that both “ET” (1982) and “Star Wars” (1977) are ahead of it, but I think they are taking into account the loads of money both of those movies raked in when they were re-released. I am fairly certain I remember “Jurassic Park” being at the top of the list; please correct me if I am wrong about this!

According to BoxOfficeMojo, the original release of ET grossed $359,197,037.00 in 1982/83. Jurassic Park made $357,067,947.00 in its single release.

However, Star Wars made “only” $307,263,857.00 in its first release.

So, in 1993 if you were counting only first releases and not adjusting for inflation, the rankings would’ve been

  1. ET
  2. JP
  3. SW

yeah but I dont think it is really fair to not adjust for inflation I mean Star Wars came out before all the other top grossing films top 20 list…and the price of movie tickets has gone up quite a freaking bit. :frowning:

Come on guys, from that same site, we have
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted/

Eh, the way the OP posed the question I assumed he was asking for non-adjusted figures… otherwise he would’ve thrown Gone With The Wind into the mix. Since he didn’t I gave the non-adjusted figures.
