Just a first post test

I’ve been lurking here for about a year and, at last, decided to register. This is just a test to see if I can post correctly.

And here’s another test to see if I can reply correctly!

Welcome to posting, Maddy, glad to have you with us.

I feel so alone !

…but just to test my .sig

Guy Montag, got a cite for that sig? I’d love to see it.

I’m not Guy, but will this do?

Seeing as this is an active-ish post I thought that I’d test out my first post here too.

What is this messagebord like anyway, I’ve not really looked at it?

turn away my son. this path leads to corruption… only a few have passed thru these condemnded unscathed… oh the tales of bloodshed i could tell you…
The SDMB is about fighting ignorance, discussing topics of ineterest, hi opal!*
Got a question about the way this board is run(the technical issues and about administration)? Post it in the ATMB.
Got a comment or something to add to a answer to a question from a SD staff member or cecil? Post it in comments about cecil or staff members columns.
Got a question of factual basis? Check out the general questions.
Want to have a serious debate about an issue? Post it in Great debates. Want to discuss media(ie games movies shows)? Post it in the Cafe society. Have a question about something that you want people to judge with their opinion? Try IMHO.
Got something interesting or personal to share? post it in the MPSIMS.
Finally, if you want to flame or rant about something, or discuss administartion(ie banning)? Put it in the BBQ pit.

Opalcat said once that you can’t have a numbered list unless there is 3 items or more. so alot of people who don’t have a third item put that in there.

Since this appears to be a thread for newbies to practice posting I’ll give it a try as well. I just recently registered after lurking for a little over a year and am a little nervous about posting. So I guess the best thing to do is just jump in.

Well, hello and welcome to MaddyStrut, 2 rights make 1 wrong, and pelleas.

Everything BrightEyes says there is true. Have a good time, and enjoy posting.
But especially, enjoy reading. Most of your questions have probably already been asked, and maybe even answered. Fact, fiction, board etiquette, board policy, and more can be found by reading what’s already there.
That’s not to say you can’t post, of course.

But, helpful hints:
The ATMB FAQ: Sticky threads that stay at the top of the About This Message Board Forum. Look through them- a lot of important and interesting info about etiquette and procedure, etc. See also the ordinary site FAQ. There’s a link to it in a button near the top right corner of this page.
The Board Search Engine: Accessible variously tharough a hanful of buttons, notably up in the corner next to the FAQ button. Overuse it (by doing an all-forums search on the word ‘the’) and it slows the board down and causes problems. Use it sparingly, and it can help you find previous answers to your questions, or simply interesting things to read.
Preview your post before submiting it by using the preview button next to the submit button.
And just plain “Don’t be a jerk.” That’s easy enough.

Have a good time. And if you’ve got a question, go ahead and ask. Experienced posters, Moderators and Administrators are usually glad to help. E-mail addresses for Mods are linked below their posts. (This goes for many posters too- like me. Not that it’s opened a torrent of mail in my case…)

This is a test on how to post.

Here is my Cite.

Hello…is this thing on

I find this very interesting!

So how do I get the Originally posted by: in the quote?

Just type it in.

Only use square brackets instead of the < > signs that I used in this example.

And welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board, Chaco and pelleas and 2 rights … glad to have you with us.

I get it (as I just did) by clicking on the “quote” button that appears on the bottom right of the post I want to quote. Of course, as you can see, while this adds the “originally posted by” line and puts the post in a quote box, it does not include any quoted material from that post.
