Just an FYI on the International Firefighters Memorial

Yep, this is yet another 9-11-01 thread but not totally.

My city, Colorado Springs, CO, has the honor of housing the IFF memorial in a park we call Memorial park here. Last year, after the “attacks” many families were unable to make the annual memorial dedication of their own fallen ones for various reasons. It was a sad day in Colorado Springs knowing what had happened and the many names that would be added this year. I remember it as well as I remember 9-11-01.

Anyhow, I know this thread will be a clunker and will probably not make it as one of the most popular threads known on the SDMB but please, on September 21st, join the hundreds (possibly thousands) that will attend this memorial, in your heart to honor their loved ones.

According to local news reports, they have had a difficult time with the marble slabs that will house all the names of those that died from June 2001 - June 2002, this of course is due to the high amount of men and women that lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 and some cracks they found in the slabs. IIRC, this is 3-4 times the amount of names that are added each year to this memorial. If memory serves me correct, they usually only need one-two slabs, this year will be five.

So anyhow, if you are in the Colorado area, please plan to attend. I plan to, not because I am a pseudo-patriot, but because in my heart I know that those that went in the towers on that horrible morning were doing what they could save people’s lives.

I may not have been there for the ceremony before but on a sad note, I feel the need to go honor those people.

Anyhow, if anyone wants any further information please check out:

Yep, five slabs, kinda brings to point the reality of it all.
