Just CALL ALREADY!

I’m applying for a job that I really want right now and would result in a huge change in my life. Resume is in, cover letter is in, all that.

I got home earlier tonight to a message from the HR person there saying they want to talk with me. Naturally, I immediately returned the call, but she was not at her desk, so I left a message. And now we play the waiting game …

It’s a west coast position, so she said she would be in the office until 8:00 or 8:30 my time! I don’t want to wait that long, I want to get it over with.

Hey Phone - RING!! COME ON! THIS IS KILLING ME HERE!

Relax, young Padawan . . .

. . . the Force is strong in matters like these. If you’ve shown your skill with a lightsaber, then the Council is sure to call on you at the appropriate moment.

Now sit dow, have a Jedi beer, and relax.

Tripler
The Force is strong in you, but it won’t make that phone call come any faster.

<Fingers crossed for interface2x>

I feel for you. My husband is applying for jobs right now and it is hell when you are waiting for that call back.

Good luck to you and don’t get so excited when they do call that you forget to post!
Hey, is that the phone I hear?

Wishing you all the luck I can!

Sending lucky thoughts your way.

I’ve just been through all of this with my sweetie…then he goes in for an interview and gets the job offered to him on the spot! I hope you have that sort of luck, because he got EXACTLY the job he wanted. It’s PERFECT.

Update:

The HR woman must have gotten busy because no call tonight :frowning: I’m not taking this as anything more than it is - no call this evening. I’ll try again tomorrow and hope that it all works out!

You are right to not read too much into this. When Rick interviewed, they said they would call on Friday. No call Friday, no call Monday, none Tuesday. Wednesday they offered him the job.

I think HR people just like to mess with us.

Hang in there!

Oh man, I know what you are going through. I had a job interview on a Monday. They called back on Tuesday while I was at work. I left a message Tuesday night. She called me back Wednesday and left a message. I called her back, no answer. I left another message. No call back. Thursday comes, and she doesn’t call. I called her and FINALLY she answered, and offered me the job.

I was so sure that I hadn’t gotten the job, because she wasn’t calling me back. I almost went insane. Well it turns out I was wrong!

So I guess I am saying: Hang in there!! HR people must be really busy.

Pseudo-update: see what happened last night? Same dance so far tonight! She called and left a message while I was at work, I returned it after I got home, left a message and am waiting … and waiting … and waiting …

I’m less nervous tonight

Don’t let another candidate take your job! Call her back and leave a message saying "I will call you at X O’Clock your time (during your lunch?) tomorrow, or if that does not work I will be home and ready to talk to you at X O’Clock PST or later. "

This is serious business, take charge. Don’t leave it up to her to get in touch with you! Most (almost all, really) employers will see this assertiveness on your part as a good thing in your favor. Don’t play phone tag!

Okay, so we spoke tonight for about 20 minutes. She was very nice and informative about the position (which, admittedly, doesn’t quite exist yet, but likely will in the next couple of weeks). She asked me to go over my experience, what I do, my qualifications, my interests, etc. I tried to discuss how my base of knowledge matched up to their needs and I think it went pretty well.

As of now, she said I should hear something back probably early next week and she gave me her email address so that I could check in if I get impatient.

Overall, I’m happy with the result and I’m still excited! Onward and upward!
