So I had a job interview last week Wednesday. It seemed to go pretty well; I was basically told I did well, and was one of the best thus far (there’s a LITTLE more to it than that, but that’s the gist). There would be only one more candidate interviewed, I’d be told what was going on, they said, in the “next couple of days.”
Well, it’s been EIGHT days now. I’m just hoping it’s due to bureaucracy and not because I didn’t get the job and they aren’t bothering to tell me. Because if so, I’m gonna be PISSED, for getting my hopes up and the obvious reasons…
Anyone with experience in this advise? I don’t have any e-mail addresses or business cards, and the company website says “no phone calls” on their career page (though obviously, I’m not sure if this circumstance fits). How long until I assume I didn’t get the job?
I’d call too - hopefully you at least remember the name of your HR contact/interviewer, and can ask the receptionist to transfer you directly to them.
You might still have gotten the job, but HR paperwork/vacation time/all kinds of issues may have come up and it’s just taking time to get things organized for you. Or they offered the position to someone else, and are waiting to see if they take it before offering it to you as second choice. Or they are just lazy. I’m still waiting for a call back from and interview I did in February 2008 - I’m assuming I didn’t get that job, since it was a summer one
It took 7 months for my brother to hear back about the job he has now. He did all the applications, and intervies. Was then told they would make a decision next week. After he didn’t hear anything he figured they went with someone else. Seven months later he gets a call asking if he was still interested. He found out that they lost funding for the job after they had interviewed. New budget gets approved, and the job opened again.
In this economy I wouldn’t be supprised if something similar happened, and they got put on a hiring freeze. If you remember the name of the interviewer give them a call. Worse case is you don’t have the job, and you haven’t lost anything.
Thanks to those who answered. I decided to call. The job hasn’t been filled yet; there are things going on behind the scenes slowing things down.
I was very apologetic, which, it occurred to me, MIGHT hurt my chances, since the job may require talking on the phone to persnickety professionals from time to time. Hopefully if it did, it wasn’t TOO much.
Well, it depends who you were apologetic too. If you just spoke with the receptionist, she probably doesn’t really care. If you spoke to the person who interviewed you, then perhaps. Or, you could look at it another way. Since you made the effort to call, it at least shows you’re still interested. The “no phone calls” stipulation is probably referring to calling about the position before your interview.
