I applied for a different job, for which I have the qualifications for (at least the one’s they listed on their website). There is a new business being built nearby and a applied for a job as a shift supervisor. I am not a supervisor right now but I have lots of experience in the subject and a college degree in an applicable field.
I applied awhile back and received a phone call saying they wanted a phone interview. Had a very successful phone interview the day before Thanksgiving and was told that they would be calling me for a sit down interview sometime the week of the 9th, as the manager who I was speaking to was going on leave during the week of the 2nd.
Now obviously I’m a little impatient, as both those weeks have passed and I haven’t heard anything.
I have three choices:
-Keep being patient.
-Call the guy back (I saved his phone number in my phone).
-Go speak to the father of one my HS friends who lives here in town and see what he can do. He just got hired as a supervisor at the same place and was the one who pointed it out as such a great place to work in the first place.
The plant was just built and will not start production until next summer and the major hiring is due to start in January, but I want to get in ASAP as I feel I have heard nothing but good about this company and I could do well for them too.
The position is still listed on their website.
Not sure if this question should be here or GQ so I would appreciate the mods help with that.
Someone I recently phone screened hadn’t heard from HR yet. I poked them, and it turned out that one manager who had also talked to him hadn’t gotten back to them yet. HR, after my question, sent the guy the material to start a visit anyhow.
So they might just be slow. It doesn’t hurt to ask, though, though for us email is a lot less insistent than a phone call.
Don’t take it personally. Not only are people out this time of year, often unexpectedly, but things are going to be hectic at a new operation anyway. Hiring people they won’t need for another week or two ( ) is not going to the highest priority.
But it might help your case, as well as your peace of mind, to give the hiring manager a call to remind him of your interest in the position, ask if there’s any other information you can provide, and ask where the decision process stands.
Thanks for the fast replies, ladies and gentlemen, I will call him back within this week and hope for the best. I’m sure they are awfully busy around there and I’m just being impatient but he did give me a date.
And I got a “be patient”. Better than a poke in the eye I guess. All the DAY shift supervisor positions are filled but they said next summer they will be hiring the night shift supervisors. He said they were indeed gonna be hiring the main operators in January and by all means apply for a Top Operator position to get my foot in the door and then I would be on the list for the next round of supervisor hiring sessions next summer.
Sounds good enough. I had spoken to him about that in my first phone screening that I’d be willing to do that.
Exactly. I have an interview for a position that needs filling badly because only one person does this job. Even so, the interview is not until January 7th for that exact reason – the holidays. I have a job, so not stressed about the delay.
