I think it would have been improved by some examples of good steampunk, for comparison.
He did mention contructions with brass tubing, polished wood etc, also gears that actually do something.
I’m with him, the kind of thing being sold as Steampunk is just embarrassing sometimes.
Now, now, the New England Rifle Foundry produces some amazingly appropriate base models for accessorizing with. Especially their Maverick line. You just need to put effort into the redesign.
