Just got my updated vaccine for Omicron & BA5

Got my omicron and flu shot today. Felt quite dopey and tired at 8pm, I’ve tried to stay up to my regular bed time* but it’s been quite a struggle, now it’s 10:30 - finally! - so goodnight.

*My day is just ruined if I rise at 4am and can’t get back to sleep.

I, also, got flu and covid shots in the same arm. I told the pharmacist i wanted the one that would be worse in my left arm, as i usually sleep on the right arm. He said, “i can do both in the left, if you like.” So i said, “sure”.

He stabbed me so close to the same spot that he only gave me a single bandaid.

That arm was pretty sore for a couple of days, and i felt it for a little more than a week. But that’s all the vaccines i need this winter.

I wondered whether there was any reason to separate the vaccines in time, but i gave my last blood sample to the vaccine study i was in the day before, and was chatting about it. And the doctor told me that most of the doctors in the group were getting them both at once. So i figured if it was good enough for a bunch of doctors who study vaccines for a living, it was good enough for me.

Canada approved the Pfizer Bivalent BA.4/5 variant this week, so hopefully we will have it here in the next few weeks. I’m probably still going to hold out until the end of the year to make it closer to six months post Covid for maximum protection.

Wife and I just got back from getting the Moderna bivalent + flu shots at the pharmacy. One in each arm. I’ll report back if we have any problems outside the normal.

Got Pfizer bivalent and flu Saturday. One in each arm.

Dizzy and woozy for a few hours, but it went away. Joint soreness along with injection sites Sunday. All soreness gone by the afternoon. None of the feelings above were very strong, just noticeable.

Weird metallic taste in my mouth for a few days – also gone now (Monday).

I got shot #5 and the latest flu shot Friday morning. No effect Friday. Slight soreness Saturday. I was dragging a bit in the afternoon after my walk (3.1 miles) and several hours after breakfast. I felt better after dinner (grilled roast beef & cheese sandwich, Baken-Ets, and a small chicken thigh). Feeling fine this morning, with only a little residual soreness in my arm.

My track record of having prolonged and very unpleasant side effects from the COVID vaccines continues.

For this reason, I got the flu shot about 2 weeks ago and scheduled the COVID booster (my 3rd boost following the initial 2-shot series) for last Friday.

Several friends shared that, despite having strong reactions to prior boosters, they didn’t have any with this most recent one. I was hopeful. I oughn’t have been.

Got the shot noonish. By midnight, I was sick as a dog. 102F fever, nausea, sore muscles, sore joints, miserable headache and neck soreness that felt like someone had clouted me with a bat at the base of the skull. Chills and much shivering.

Another unpleasant effect – and this one was new – a strong odor in my nostrils. It smelled sickly sweetish fakey plastic. I can’t compare it to anything else. The odor persisted for a few hours, then gradually abated.

No sore arm, so small mercies.

Coffee helped a little yesterday morning, but I spent most of the day in bed trying to sleep it away. Couldn’t eat.

This morning is much better, yayy. Still haven’t eaten but have had more coffee. I’ll force food a little later.

I still have a slight fever and body soreness, but it’s so much better than Saturday, I’m grateful.

It’s getting harder and harder to talk myself into getting these shots.

I’m 54 and I’ve never really had a side effect from any of the 4 Pfizers that I’ve had except a little arm soreness from the 1st one.
That continues to kind of freak me out a little.

Tomorrow evening I get the Pfizer bivalent

What I mean is I completely understand not wanting to do something that makes you feel sick.

It’s also weird to feel nothing from them you wonder what it means for if you get covid.
I’m probably one of the few who’s never gotten it I think

I am so sorry that it is still so bad for you. You are a very brave person and you are dong a good thing not only for yourself but for the community. Thank you so much.

Thanks. I’ll keep getting them as directed, but I hope there’s a longer respite in between shots going forward. And I agree, it’s as important for the community as for me personally.

I have a young friend, a fellow who comes and does chores for me that are more than I’m up for these days. Early in the pandemic, he boasted that he wasn’t going to take any precautions or get any vaccine. I tried so hard to persuade him, but he knew better.

Until his dad got it and died. The man was younger than me.

My friend and his family also got it with (obviously) less dramatic side effects. But now he is suffering from survivor’s guilt and having to admit his ignorance cost him dearly. He rushed to get his family vaccinated. He stopped by on Thursday and we had a long discussion. I gently urged him to seek counseling and get with his doctor for some anti-anxiety meds.

The repercussions from not getting vaccinated strike much more broadly than on just any individual.

I did this, too. The pharmacy worker asked if I’d like both in the same arm and I said yeah. Hope it didn’t affect the effectiveness.

I never even had that much soreness this time. I think maybe I got a hematoma as there has been a lump underneath the injection site that has been getting smaller over time.

I have never noted any side effects from any of the COVID shots except with the first one, after which my head felt strange for a couple of days. Hard to describe it. I’ve never caught it that I know of.

I got my second booster/fourth shot on August 8th (on the advice of @puzzlegal) which means that I am eligible for this new one. I got my flu shot a couple of weeks ago. I had mild Covid in January.

My first three jabs were Pfizer and I had mild flu-ish symptoms for a few hours. My fourth was Moderna and I had horrible muscle aches for most of the night. I think I may switch back to Pfizer just for that reason or I’ll just get what’s available when it’s convenient for me to get a shot in the next few days.

Second booster for me and my wife today (the fourth in total).

The first two were AZ, third was Moderna, this one was the Pfizer bivalent vaccine.

I like the thought of having as wide a range of vaccines as possible, the general consensus seems to be that such an approach is highly likely to confer excellent protection against sever disease and that’ll do for me.

Flu vaccine is scheduled for a couple of weeks time as well. Stick me with as much as possible, that’s my view.

I’m modestly rebellious. By chance I had COVID #4 yesterday and flu today. I obediently reported to the pharmacist administering the flu shot that my left arm was used for COVID. “So I guess right arm today?” I asked. “Left if you prefer”, she said. So left (again) it was.

I have a slightly sore arm from yesterday, same as for all the COVID shots. A-Z, A-Z, Pfizer, Pfizer (bivalent) for the record.

I have roughly the same as you:

Pfizer 1&2 initial series
J&J booster
Moderna booster
Moderna bivalent booster

I was sort of hoping to get Novavax for my fall booster, but it hasn’t been approved, yet.

Got Pfizer bivalent booster two days ago. Minimal side effects yesterday, really just a slightly sore arm.
