We’ve both had all five shots, the last one almost a year ago. I’m just over a bout with covid. Do I now take the new booster? I must be partially immune because of my recent infection, but I don’t know if the booster will do any good right now. We were scheduled to get it last week. Mrs. CC is still in line for it, but I don’t know if I need to still do it.
The recommendation by Health Canada is to wait 6 months after infection.
Many of the doctors I follow recommend 3 months.
I got covid (for the first time, yay) mid-August. I figure I’ll wait the 3 months and get the newest booster mid-November. It doesn’t make sense to me to wait another 3 months and do it after the winter season.
The research that shows optimal response at about a 6-month interval is premised on simplifying assmptions of
(a) uniform continuing exposure (as opposed to seasonality);
(b) continuing exposure to the same strain.
In OP’s case, the very recent infection is likely to be the same strain that will be circulating this winter, and so recent that there’s low probability of immunity fading before the winter peak. In OP’s case, I don’t see any obvious reason not to wait the recommended 6 months.
Whereas in @Folly’s case (infected in August) I think the slightly early November plan makes sense.
My wife and I both got it back in April, a couple of weeks before were to get our next booster, and we were advised to postpone the booster six months. We’re scheduled for our next booster a few days from now.
Was waiting for insurance to figure out what to do with the new boosters and then tested positive. Ruined a planned 3 day trip to Dayton, not as bad as a 6 days in Dayton though. Wife and live-in son came down with it too, my case was mild, they got hit harder, but sounds like people get over this current strain in a week or less.
