Many people tell stories that either begin or end with them saying, “Just my Luck!”
For example: You are attending a funeral of a young person who was shot to death in a drive-by gangland slaying. The family of this young person is attending the funeral and they are all terribly distressed - weeping and wailing. You meet a young doofus at this funeral who tells you the deceased owed them $25 and now that they’ve been murdered, yon doofus will never get their money. They end the story by telling you, “Just my luck!” I believe we’ve all experienced examples of this thoughtless kind of nonsense - especially in movies or TV shows. I have introduced this thread this way because I’m hoping you will omit any similar story. Instead, I’d like to hear about one or more events from your life (or from one of your friends or family members) that caused you to say, “Just my Luck!”. I will begin with an example from my life.
About 6 weeks ago, my doctor scheduled me for a CAT SCAN at a large downtown hospital. There is a $100 penalty for people who fail to get to the appointment on time and have to reschedule. So, I have been planning for this appointment for several weeks now. I’ve consulted maps to see exactly where I have to go. Downtown parking is terrible and so I drove downtown just to check out the parking situation and I found a parking lot and made a note of its hours and the price so that I was all set for my appointment.
The appointment is for 6 PM today which means I have to leave in about 4 hours. But I just looked out the window and saw that a terrible snow storm has begun. The snow is falling harder than I’ve seen in this city for several years and I have no idea what the driving or parking will be like in this snow storm downtown and I do not want to take any chances. You may think I’m a wimp but the cost of my car insurance will take a terrible hit if I should happen to have an accident and I really do not want to take any chances driving in this weather.
So, I’m going to a taxi instead. The taxi will cost me $120. It has only snowed twice this year so far and it has not snowed this hard in several years. All my planning and preparation and it’s all just down the drain.
Just my luck!
How about you? What kind of luck do you have? Do you have any stories that have caused you to say, “Just my Luck!”?
