Just ordered a wireless optical mouse...

…without getting advice here. This could be a major mistake.

Anyway,it can be seen at

Did I screw up? Again?

There was another model with the smallest USB connection in the Universe, and even though the customer reviews at amazon suggested it doesn’t work, I could have gotten it - with rebates - for just $15. It was hard to turn down.

I am not denigrating the advice I get here. Quite to the contrary, I value it highly.

Just making light of the fact that I might have made a dumb move.

I have two Microsoft wireless optical mice but recently figured out that a problem I was having went away when I replaced the wireless mice with ordinary wired mice. The problem was that, after working fine, the mouse pointer would only barely respond or would not move at all for a few minutes, and the mouse buttons would be ineffective, but if I rebooted they would work again. It’s too bad, because stiff mouse cords that keep snagging on things certainly do make mouse movements clumsier.

Also, when I first started using the wireless mice, battery life was only about 3 to 4 hours. Then, for no apparent reason, life jumped to several months, even though I didn’t bother to pull the USB plugin out of the PC and snap it into the bottom of the mouse to turn it off.

A suggestion for wireless mouse makers: put a switch on the mouse to turn it off, or have the mouse shut down if you turn it upside down, rather than doing this by returning the USB plugin back into the underside of the mouse (which requires messing around with the back of the PC or docking station or wherever you have things like that installed).

Another suggestion would be to arrange so that moving the mouse around on the mousepad would move the pointer around on the screen, but that might be asking too much.

Barnowl, I have a box of those. They work fine & battery life is measured in months.

Thanks for the news, LSLGuy.

Ever use them with an the arm of a LazyBoy, or your thigh as the “mousepad”? I can do so with my wired GE optical mouse.

They work fine. The size is little tiny for my XL hands but as LSLGuy said battery times these days for modern cordless mice are measured in months not weeks.

This is my favorite wireless. Perfect size, on-off switch (although I rarely use it) and a USB dongle extension. Occasionally Circuit City will go nuts and sell them for $ 12 after rebates.

I use mine on the arm of my LazyBoy all the time. Only problem I’ve had was I recently forgot to disconnect the usb portion of the mouse from my laptop and someone in the house bent it and damaged one of my usb ports on my laptop. Of course none of my teenagers know a thing about it.

Well, I did screw up, as predicted.

Your LX7 seems to be exactly what I need. I use my notebook plugged in and only at home. So, the on/off switch is very important. It’d be a major pain in the ass to disconnect only by unplugging the USB connection and connecting it to the mouse.

Fortunately, I was able to cancel the original order (5 minutes ago), at amazon
and order the one you recommended.

Thanks a ton!!
