Just saw About Time

I just saw the new Richard Curtis film About Time. We both really liked it, and recommend it. We both like time-travel stories, but it wasn’t really sci-fi. Time travel was just a plot device to get the story going. I wouldn’t say it was strictly a rom-com either. I think one reason I like British movies is because they don’t feel the need to fit neatly into one category like Hollywood films. So, anyone else see it and have an opinion?

I absolutely loved it. This weekend I saw Ender’s Game, Last Vegas, and About Time, and About Time was definitely the best of the 3. It was a very human story, with a twist. I agree, the time travel was just a plot device.

Domhnall Gleeson, the male lead, was perfect for this role, and Rachel McAdams was adorable as the female lead. In some ways, it reminded me of The Time Traveler’s Wife. Not only do they both share the time travel theme, but they also have a very human side to them.

I’d recommend this movie for anyone who wants to see an absorbing human comedy/drama.

As well as sharing Rachel McAdams. Who also starred in Midnight in Paris, another time travelling movie in which she never gets to time travel.

I agree. It was an excellent movie, in which the time travel element was only incidental to the storyline. I love this type of story, but unfortunately, it would be a difficult sell without the time travel element. As someone said to me today, “Why would I want to see a movie that was just about ordinary people’s lives?”
