Just started Standard mode in DDR Max 2

Whew! Finally!

After playing Dance Dance Revolution for quite a while now, I’ve finally mastered Beginner and Light modes enough to be able to do Standard mode comfortably on at least a handful of songs.

Still can’t finish “In the Navy” in that mode yet, though…too difficult. But that is my goal, at least for now.

On a side note, I think I’m starting to wear a hole in my socks.

Just had to share!

Oooh, you just reminded me, now that I’ve finally moved to my new apartment building with big, thick concrete walls and floors, I can finally get this game without sparking a lynch mob among my neighbors.

It can get kind of loud, can’t it?

When my 8 year old daughter plays the game, she STOMPS so hard the house shakes!

I love DDR!

I’m going to go play today because I’m back in town for spring break. Normally, there isn’t a machine within an hour of me. :frowning:

I’ve never seen any game that has such broad appeal as Dance Dance Revolution.

Everyone that plays it loves it. Boys, girls, men, women, grandparents…it crosses all boundaries.

My sister put up the most resistance. “No!”, she said. “I just ate.” “I’m tired.” On and on. Finally, after watching her daughter play, she relented. And then she played for the next hour straight, and even acted out the steps off-pad while someone else was playing!

Wouldn’t this be a decent aerobic workout set to music? I’ve never seen one.

Yes, it is actually! In addition to the arcade-style game mode, DDR Max 2 has a workout mode, that shows you the number calories you’ve burned off while playing. You can set a goal for each day, and view a chart of how many calories you burned each day. It also compares the calories burned with the equivalent amount of swimming, jogging, or jump rope.

When I’m learning the steps for a new song, I prefer to use workout mode because it’ll just keep going even if you miss a bunch steps, rather than fail out like the game mode.

Ahhh, I love DDR! Two of my friends have it, so since it’s spring break we’ll be playing it non-stop. I can play quite well in Light mode, but I’m not quite ready for standard mode yet. sigh I wish I had enough cash to buy the game.

I love DDR also, and it’s quite the workout. I’m somewhere between Light/Standard mode myself, though I have DDR Extreme. I got it for Christmas along with a pair of the soft pads with the thick foam inserts (you can get a REALLY good deal on those on eBay.)

Extreme also has the workout mode. I usually play in training mode though, which lets me play the same song over and over consecutively, without having to start a new game every three songs in the arcade play (I don’t care for the Nonstop mode). I find it more useful for actual workout purposes, since I don’t have to stop to wait while I choose the next song or going through a bunch of menus as much.

I also play DDR, but I play DDRX.

I’m somewhere between Light and Standard modes, having played for a month so far. Don’t have the game at home, but I play at the arcade.

I’m practicing Afronova Primeval so that I can play it without making an idiot of myself when I play the other Afronovas…

Heh. Been playing DDR for nearly two years now, am on Heavy. Don’t have it at home since when the Next-Gen systems came out, my father decided to buy us a GameCube.

So I’ve wound up spending an inordinate amount of money on the arcade version in an attempt to get better. My closest male friends are addicted, too. In fact, we’re making a trip down to Ann Arbor on Tuesday for the almost explicit purpose of going to Pinball Pete’s to play.

Do you know that they’re coming out with a GameCube version that stars Mario, Luigi, and a bunch of other NES characters?

I don’t know when it’s being released, but I’ve seen video of people playing it at one of those big electronics expos. The bf got us a cube when they were on sale super-cheap right before Xmas (my DDR is the one for PS/2)… luckily they make converters for the controllers, so I’ll be able to use my soft pads to play the Mario version when it finally makes it stateside.

jaw drops Really? Wow…

I don’t know whether to be ecstatic or highly saddened that they marred DDR (again) by placing silly cartoon characters within the game.

Seriously!? That is awesome!

My boyfriend is here now, he was the one that showed me the site so I had to ask him where it was we saw it (he is way more into gaming stuff than me.)

woo, go!
i was up to standerd, then stopped playing for while, so now i’m back on light :frowning: i kick ass on light though haha.

We have a hacked xbox at my moms boyfriends house, so I have this emulator on there called Step Mania, it has every single DDR song ever, and then some. So I get to practice there whenever I want, except I have to fix my dance pad set up, it fell apart.

(i have two dance pads on a huge piece of plywood… theres welcome mats underneath to make it comfortable, and the pads are spaced perfectly so that the distance between the left arrow on the right pad, and the right arrow on the left pad, is the same as the right and left on one… it makes playing double really easy.)

Speaking of double, have you ever tried that? It’s fun!

No, I’ve never tried double, although I definitely will if we can get a second pad. Sounds like your setup on plywood is a great way to go to eliminate slip.

Do you have to pay extra to play double mode on the arcade version? I’m assuming you would, but I’ve never tried it.

The set up rocks, it feels an awful lot like dancing on the arcade, but you don’t have to stomp as hard.

To play double on the arcade version, you have to pay for two players.

Wow puppy, now I want to copy your setup (minus the second pad perhaps). I have StepMania, but only some of the DDR songs, plus a bunch of anime and video games songs. I used to have all the DDR songs, but it was taking up too much space (I think it takes up about a gig currently), and my computer was lagging badly. Heck, as it is it lags a bit after a while. A dedicated StepMania system would be nice.

I’ve been on and off playing this (posted about it in another thread earlier on) and I have to say that I still like the game and keep returning to it. I went looking for this thread now because yesterday I did my first 8-footer! Woohoo! It was La Signorita Virtual / 2mb, from the 8th Edition (Japanese import, has 110 songs! Including just about all Max and Paranoia versions - crazy!). I also managed Max300 on Light, but that was actually much easier.

Really love this game.
