Usually, we ban all associated accounts. We do make exceptions, though, if it’s clear the poster didn’t realize he was breaking the rules. Particularly if they turn themselves, we almost always merge the accounts under the username of their choice, and allow them to continue posting. Usually, this happens when someone registers for the board, goes away for a while, and then can’t remember their old password or screen name.
If the person is using the sock accounts to fuck around with other people - agreeing with himself so it looks like his position has more support than it does, say, or using the second screen name as cover to insult other posters - then they’re banned regardless of any protestations of ignorance about the rules.
