Just what was up with them Duke boys?

They couldn’t open the doors to the General Lee because the doors were welded shut, like a race car’s doors. That way, Bo and Luke could pretend like they were NASCAR drivers.

The thing I could never figure out was how Cooter could keep up with all the work, fixing the damage to the General Lee and sheriff’s cars after all those wild chases. Of course, if the Duke boys really did drive like that…jumping over canyons and other miscellaneous things, they would have totalled the General Lee many times over. I think they wrecked more than 200 General Lees by the time they were done.

One of the few pleasures I ever got out of watching the show was during the landings from the jumps. Usually shown in slow motion, most of the time you could easily see the entire suspension snap, see the rear axle just break like a stick with dry rot, see various unidentifiable parts fly out in every direction.

Of course followed by a quick cut to the actors in a mock-up car with a process screen behind them, doing a little “Bounce” in their seats to simulate the force of the landing.

Great stuff.

Sir Rhosis

Uh, Coldfire? Why do I get an unauthorized request when I click on your link?

[sub]Damned mods can’t do anything right. Time to start a pit thread.[/sub]

Then there was that horrible MST3K movie where he was endangered by “Killer Shrews” who bore remarkable resemblences to dogs with masks on.

DRY,

Of course Mr. Best explained that the Killer Shrews were an analogy to the ennui of life gnawing at the fiber of one’s soul, attacking one’s principals and… NOT. He has been in some crud, I will admit that.

Sir

Oh, sure I understand! Who wouldn’t want to attack their schools’ principals?

[sub]Sorry, couldn’t resist. Seriously, yeah, Best has been in his share of both good and bad productions.[/sub]

Hey, that link doesn’t work anymore, you’re right. Oh well.

Didn’t mean to come across as too harsh towards Catherine Bach, BTW. It’s just that the last time I saw her was a Dukes rerun on Dutch TV, happily jumping out of her Jeep in those lovely shorts and a tight t-shirt. Needless to say, it was a bit of a visual shock to just skip 20 years like that.

I actually know their names. Tom Wopat was Luke and John Schneider was Bo. Oh, well. I lived in the south as a kid, was in love with Luke Duke, and wanted to look like Daisy. What can I say?

I’ve heard John Schneider in a couple of radio interviews, talking about how he responds to inane questions from the general public. When a fan asks how to jump his Charger without incurring any damage, John says to jump someone else’s Charger.

A common misperception is that the show was canceled due to low ratings and the loss of several key actors. Actually, all the available Dodge Chargers were used up filming the stunts, and, well, the boys couldn’t exactly switch to driving a TransCamaro now, could they?

There’s a space in there somewhere. Remove it, and it works fine. But, oh how I wish it hadn’t.

:o I do that…
My sister loved that show. (I was way too young, and probably not even born. I don’t know when it was aired.)

In the show? No doors.

Her photo does not look that bad! She looks devilishly sexy in a maternal way. She’s probably pregnant in the picture. And if you take a look at the other pictures on the same site, you can see she’s still quite shapely. Maybe not a starved anorexic stick figure, but I can’t guess what you guys want.

You guys must have impossible “supermodel” standards or something. I shudder to think what would happen if you ever shut off the computer and went out and met some average, normal, everyday women who aren’t even as sultry as Catherine Bach. You’d probably run off screaming.

Geez, you’d think she had three breasts and a wooden leg…and a face drawn by Basil Wolverton from “Mad”…

One thing I will never forget from my childhood is watching Dukes on Friday night at 9. I had a serious crush on Bo (I was, like, 9 or 10 at the time).

In reference to Daisy only getting to drive the car when the boys were in trouble, a few seasons into the show, Daisy got her own vehicle. It was a Jeep named Dixie. Looking back, that’s when Daisy started to break out the stereotype she had been placed into. Eventually, she basically said “It’s OK to be a strong woman and still be sexy too.”

tclouie: no supermodel standards here, I assure you. But that doesn’t stop a 12 year old kid from lusting after Daisy Duke, right?
