Just When I'm Craving a Cup of Coffee

It’ll be awhile before I can enjoy a great cup of coffee. Weather and poor planning has resulted in a bad crop of beans.

Consumer reports has a report coming out next month. I’m looking forward to seeing which brands come out on top. They didn’t rate any brand excellent this year.

I’ll have to settle for the general office swill as usual. I still make Millstone Coffee at home. The breakfast blend is a step up from Folgers.

It’s hard to imagine life without a good cup of joe. I’m not sure I’ve ever had an excellent cup. Consumer Reports got that part right.

I remember my grandmother talking about ways to stretch a bag of coffee during the depression. She added various fillers and flavors so that she didn’t have to use as much coffee. I don’t recall exactly what she did. But, she was a resourceful lady.

One more reason why I buy my coffee from the local roaster. I’ll let him figure out the complexities of bad crops; I know and trust him enough to make sure I’m taken care of.

Wait. Isn’t there a poster named ‘Alexa Hente’? Granted, I bet he’s pretty busy right about now…

I remember back in the 80’s there wasn’t much choice in coffee. Folgers or Maxwell House in a basic blend was it. I bought Yuban because it was a little more flavorful. Today, Folgers has at least 4 blends/roasts in my local grocery, and there’s several gourmet brands too.

Yuban is still around. I may get a pound and see if it’s still as good.

The Consumer Reports results should be interesting. I’m surprised they are saying nothing they tested was excellent.

ANyone recommend a solid coffee maker… i think i;m goin to have to break down and purchase a new one…

Funny about coffee when i was kid i use to fix that taster choice freeze dried stuff for my dad… lol… do they still even sell that… and can someone explain the chicory thing??

Got a couple of independents i feel good about supporting here..

From the Community Coffee web site. They sell a lot of Chicory Coffee blends. They even sell chicory so you can add it to your own beans before grinding. I drank chicory coffee once in awhile, when I was younger. I still love visiting the Cafe Dumonde Coffee shops in New Orleans. Coffee and beignets makes a great morning.

Coffee in order of preference:

Costco’s Organic Rainforest Blend (I don’t remember the brand, but it comes in a large bag.)
Trader Joe’s French Roast
Costco’s French Roast (from the same maker as Rainforest)
Trader Joe’s Volcano
