Back in the 1970s the New York Daily News had a “Justice League” comic strip which I followed until I moved - the plot line was about a series of natural disasters all over the Earth, which turned out to be caused by a super-villain who was very long-lived, lived in a space station, and was somehow using the disasters to steal life-span from the casualties he caused (in retrospect, I think the villain must have been Vandal Savage, or a thinly disguised version of him); I never read the end of the story. Anyone remember this storyline? Is it collected anywhere?
I can find no record of there ever being a Justice League comic strip.
I don’t know anything about the strip, but the villain sounds more like General Immortus than Vandal Savage. He’s usually a Doom Patrol adversary, but a lot of his schemes center on various forms of life extension for himself. I don’t think Savage had any concerns on that score (at least, not until recently).
Huh. It was definitely a multiple-hero team, with DC characters (Batman and Superman, for sure). The Daily News had “comic strip” versions of novels (I recall them doing “The Sword of Shannara”) - maybe they had permission to reprint a Justice League story in serialized form?
Thanks. That may help my search.
Here you go.
So it actually was Savage? That’s even more broken than usual.
Thank you! Here’s the wikipedia page The World's Greatest Superheroes - Wikipedia
It’s worth noting the strip was titled “World’s Greatest Superheroes” rather than any variation on “Justice League”.
Yeah, but considering the characters I can see why the OP remembered it as Justice League.
It’s childish, I know, but I find it amusing that, at least on my screen, “The World’s Greatest Superheroes” was shortened to “The Wor…st Superheroes”.
Would you rather they were “Superh…oes?”
yes
So would I, actually. It would represent a major shake-up for a moribund genre.
“The Disco Disappearances”? Guest-starring Black Lightning? Only in the '70s!
I seem to recall a X-Rated comic called XXX-Women. They may not have been hoes but they sure dressed like it!
