I finally got to see this. Good show. One thing no one has mentioned is the hilariously wonderful scene that Jere Burns / Wynn Duffy finally got to have. When Raylan simply demonstrates that yes, he *is *going to play Russian Roulette with Wynn - and Wynn losing his cool and spouting “JEE-zus!!” it was chilling and funny at the same time. Nicely done - and since Wynn Duffy was a fringe player who was basically supposed to show reaction shots as Quarles went down the rabbit hole, it was nice to see him get a central part in a great scene.
Yes, that scene was incredible. I could almost believe that the actor thought there was really a bullet in that gun, he looked so shocked.
Does anyone believe that Raylan palmed the bullet and was just bluffing? My wife does, but I don’t think so. At that point, I don’t believe Raylan gave a crap if Wynn got shot. He was going on emotion only.
My first reaction to this question was “yes, he palmed it.” But a moment’s thought leads me to believe that the writers intend for each of us to ask ourselves that question: Raylan has been presented in such a way that either answer works! That’s the appeal of the character.
Only because the police were right outside do I think he palmed it. As angry as he was, he isn’t stupid. He knows there is no way he’d get away with it.
I agree. he knows he cannot get Quarles if he is in custody.
yes, it was important that it was left ambiguous.
I mean, Raylan has shot and killed quite a large number of people over the years. He’s never gone to jail for it before, why would that change now? “I questioned him over the illegal firearm, and he went crazy and pulled a weapon! I had no choice but to shoot him.” It’s flimsy, but he’d make it work.
Just watched it on DVD, so bump.
His intro to the scene, about the game the pawn shop owner played with his employers, made me think it was palmed: after all, the pawn shop player palmed the bullet when he played the game.
But my absolute favorite scene was when Quarles reached for his arm and Raylen pulled it back. Their expressions and slight moves just about had me rolling on the floor. Perfectly played.
