He has to know already, from Duffy.
Oh yeah, good point. Pretty stupid of Duffy to give Quarles anything to use against Raylan though, considering Raylan and Duffy’s relationship.
It’s going to be fun rewatching this season, when it’s all over. Maybe then I’ll be able to connect the dots.
EDIT: Where’s Prez from The Wire when we need him? He’d have a nice little bulletin board with pictures and arrows and shit.
I’m assuming there’s not enough interest for a weekly episode thread, so SPOILERS COMING for the March 6 episode!
Do I have this right – Quarles drags Gary back to Kentucky just so he can kill Gary and try to frame Raylan for it. At the same time Quarles is trying to get the FBI to think Raylan is dirty. Isn’t that overkill? If it had been just one thing or the other, maybe he would have gotten somewhere.
Another outstanding episode, and it’ll be even better when the DVD is out so I can do a marathon. Maybe it’ll come together better in my head.
What’s Wynn going to do?
We know Quarles’ gun is going to jam. My money’s on Duffy, as the intended victim. But maybe Raylan.
Loved that whole bit with the bullet and Johnny Carson.
The interesting bit was when the FBI agent wouldn’t say why he suspected Raylan. So is he in the pocket of the Detroit mob boss?
Quarles thinks Raylan’s dirty because he’s unaware of the history Raylan has with Boyd Crowder. So when he stumbles into Kentucky intent on setting up shop, and he’s confronted with a deputy US Marshal who, it appears, is friendly with one of the notorious criminals in the area, he assumes, “Okay, so this guy’s dirty.”
It’s mostly happenstance that he relays this opinion to his shark-skin wearing, rat-fink of a brother (or Detroit connection? are they brothers?), who is cooperating with the FBI. From there, the FBI happily jump on the opportunity to prosecute a corruption charge, and in doing so end up over-extending their play and showing their cards, which will no doubt come up again as the season draws closer to its conclusion.
Could be! But if he’s in Detroit’s pocket and Detroit wants to get rid of Quarles, I can’t make sense of his actions. Unless he’s setting Raylan up for a confrontation with Quarles. If Raylan kills Quarles, Detroit’s in the clear.
It’s all so confusing!
What’s up with the gun in Winona’s house? It’s not the gun that was used on Gary – we saw Quarles take that gun with him. So whose gun is it? Raylan’s never misplaced a gun, has he?
Sometimes I wanna smack Raylan for keeping his co-workers out of the loop. It’s not like he’s working with fuck-ups. Tim and Art and Rachel are all stand-up, and they deserve better treatment from Raylan. But good for Raylan, finally letting Tim know what was up, with the planted gun.
New Thread for last night’s episode.
And my attempt at a season synopsis.
It had to have been the gun that killed Gary. Quarles took it with him. Later a henchman tried to break into Raylan’s car presumably to leave the gun there but the bar owner scared him off. Since the gun couldn’t be left there, the henchman left it somewhere else that could be tied to Raylan that the cops would search, and that place was Winona’s house.
He got the info from a wiretap - presumably illegal
I like this and it makes sense -
It makes sense, but it’s tricky. When was the gun taken to Winona’s house? It was daylight when the bar owner saw someone messing with Raylan’s car. So the gun would have to be taken to Winona’s house in daylight, possibly even after Gary’s body was found. The guy with the gun would have no way of knowing whether the cops had already searched Winona’s house.
fair enough - they could have just planted the gun then knowing the house would be searched and perhaps planned to put some other evidence in the back of the car.
Or the folks messing with the car were not actaully part of the quarles thing
Or the messing with the car was just meant to get inside raylan’s head for when teh eventual search did happen - as it did.
You’d think they’d know Raylan’s not stupid enough to leave the murder weapon at the crime scene. Any gun in Winona’s house would have to be a plant.
Who went with Winona when they went to her house? Was it the one of the local cops? I’ve been trying to replay the episode but the fast-forward on my PC doesn’t want to work.
Weell, you’d think they would know that any deputy marshal wouldn’t be stupid enough to kill the ex-husband of his baby’s momma in front of said couple’s still for sale house - let alone leave a shell casing at the scene.
But, these are Lexington cops - and speaking as a local resident - I say that with great ‘pride’.
It was the local cop that first summoned Raylan to the scene, plus a backup with a couple of random uniforms.
