Aaaarrrgghh…Justified went out on a high note (after a lackluster fifth series of trying to tie off all loose ends whether they needed it or not) and the story of the Raylan Givens/Boyd Crowder conflict/bromance/competition is done. I just do not see the point in another Justified miniseries even if it was the role that Timothy Olyphant was born to play (and honestly, the only role I’ve ever really enjoyed his performance in; I still say that Seth Bullock is the most boring man in Deadwood). What’s next; an Americans: After The Cold War series? Just let a great thing be without having to keep milking it until it dies.
Stranger
Interesting that you mentioned The Americans. Just today I was wondering how I would view that show differently now that we are seeing what Russia has become. In The Americans I had some respect for some of the Russians. Probably the best and most selfless character was one of the Russians. I watched the whole series before the Ukraine invasion and I am decidedly less Russia friendly now than I was then.
Definitely not wanting an Americans prequel, sequel or any other kind of reboot.
Forgot to say… Yeah Justified was great and should be left as it ended.
“it was the role that Timothy Olyphant was born to play” - agree
" I still say that Seth Bullock is the most boring man in Deadwood" - disagree
Personally, I will take all the Justified and/or Elmore Leonard content they want to give me.
I think Timothy Olyphant is excellent in the Criminally Underrated: The Girl Next Door
Kelly is the trickiest character to consider here, and Olyphant’s performance is perfectly balanced between the two modes of the character: a bear-huggy big-brother type and an often-violent sociopath with no compunction for politeness. His presence introduces a bit of danger into the rest of the proceedings, but the entire point of Kelly’s existence is to put a face on the part of Danielle’s job from which she needs to escape. The Girl Next Door was, to say the least, not a critical favorite upon release, but it deserves another look as a forgotten masterpiece of 2000s-era sex comedies. This was one of the very best films of 2004.
Who’s taking bets on which Deadwood actors will make an appearance?
A great story. I hope Clement and Skender are in the series.
Yay, I will take all the Timothy Olyphant I can get. Universe, please don’t make me eat these words.
When will it be available?
And where?
Well FX is doing the series and their official streaming home is Hulu.
Some more information is starting to come out (it is premiering in July on FX):
Can’t wait!!
I think a sequel showing how Elizbeth deals with the collapse of the USSR, and the revelations of exactly how brutal, incompetent, corrupt and criminal her whole society was/is could be pretty interesting. Whether you liked her or hated her, you have to admit, she really did believe in the promise of the Soviet Union, and believed all their propaganda. Seeing how she deals with the reality of life in Russia in the 90s would be interesting. But I suspect very few people would actually want to watch such a show, especially as compared to the original.
Picture something like, The Americans meets Chernobyl.

Hopefully it will repeat at some point. Maybe I can find it on On Demand.
