Anyone have the dope on him and his show ‘Rebel Eats’? It looks like his show wasn’t picked up and apparently Alton Brown (his mentor) is out of the picture. What happened?
Here is a rather interesting discussion about him, the show, and Alton Brown.
That’s interesting Kiz. I guess the bottom line is that all parties are being tight-lipped about why his show hasn’t gone forward. He (Justin) is very unique - it wouldn’t surprise me if he couldn’t cone to terms with Food Network. Regrettably, I missed the one show he made, he was so interesting.
I always thought of him as more of a Cooking Channel type because of that uniqueness. But alas, it’s the Food Network Star, not the Cooking Channel Star.
Well, I only watched one show of his and found him to be very grating.
The one show I watched, I could tell he was pretty much hammered, which I found to be a little off putting for someone who supposedly takes their craft so seriously.
I did see Justin’s show. Memory is a little hazy but the general gist of it went kinda like:
Justin, a cameraman and a production assistant drove in a cruddy old van to some locally popular greasy spoon burger joint in some rural Americana location. He tasted their famous burger and then cooked something along the line of candied baby goat brains and pressured the hesitant restaurant cooks to eat some.
I have no interest in watching a second episode.
