Hello, I have a question regarding juvenile criminal records. A long time ago I was a dumb kid who threatened a security guard that was knocking on my door. i ended up getting charged with a felony terrorist threat but it was dropped to a misdemeanor. Did some time in juvy and a group home. Completed probation and was released from juvy. Cant remember if my record was sealed then, but I have heard records would be sealed once a juvenile turns 18. Not sure if true. I have here a petition to seal a juvenile record. Not sure if I need to file because I don’t know if my record is there or not. I was able to pass a firearms background check multiple times. I am applying for my CCW with good cause but don’t know if that record will show up or not. I will be speaking with an attorney about it, wanted to know what the community weighs in on
After doing some resarch online for the website of the jurisdiction everything was involved in, I could find no info regarding case lookup when I entered the case #. I input my name and no records were found on juvenile court records lookup. Not sure what that entails
The answer may depend on the state you live in. A number of states have been getting tougher on juvenile crime in recent years and something like this might have changed in some of the states.
I’ve not been able to access any juvenile records in my state. I can’t even get a court date for a juvenile online OR AT THE COURTHOUSE for a juvenile hearing!
(You have to go to the floor of the courthouse where the hearing will be held, on the day of the hearing, THEN you can see the case on the computer monitors on that floor only!)
In other words, don’t worry about your juvenile records. These are more secret than US government secret documents!
